Hello.

I have a Punto from 2004, 1.2l

Since a couple of months there is a strange noise, not so easy to explain.

First of all, I can hear it only after 15-20 mins of driving and only with the windows down.

It is a sort of whistle, it reminds me the noise that the circular saw makes, so it is a metallic sound.

It does not change with speed or RPM and it happens at different speeds (50 but also 120)

Today I went to FIAT but they could not find anything. My guess was that something was wrong with the brakes but I replaced them in April and the FIAT mechanic checked and could not find anything wrong.

Have you experienced a similar problem or can you guess what it could be?

Thanks!

Those speeds are kph right ?:) Feel the drums and discs after a run to see if one is warm.Jack up the car remove the wheels and spin each hub. Look out for uneven pad wear or dirt, stones around the disk and calipers.

on some punto 2b cars fiat fitted a rubber grommit under the grille on the bonnet to sit on the slam panel it went all along under the grille if you understand me
maybe if you fit one of these the whistle may go?

not 100% sure what you mean with grommit but i can definitely have a look under the grille on the bonnet

thanks

Are you sure it's not the lowered windows that are causing the noise?

Sounds like a resonance to me, that only happens at defined frequencies or speeds. Think of blowing on a bottle

mmm, i don't know

it never happened in the last 4 years (since I bought the car)

and it happens with different positions of the windows (also when I open only one)

thanks
