General mud flaps

General mud flaps

Punto mud flaps were designed for the punto, you buy them from fiat they cost a bomb.

as they are designed to be fairly flexible colour coding them is pointless, you'll crack all the paint the first time it snows or when they expand in hot weather

Bought these (front) and these (rear) for my five-door Mk2... -- although since discovered that Fiat Accessories are doing just the front ones, I think (the rear ones seem to be no longer available from them...), for around £15 a pair. Sadly, like the original Ford: only available in black....

They fit perfectly: but the clips that come with them are a b*gg*r to put on; and I've heard that they tend to rust (search for mudflaps on the Forum...) -- so am planning to use clamps instead -- as this is what I've used in the past. (y)

There are coloured ones around; and universal fitting ones, too (some that you have to trim to fit...) -- but I'm not a fan, I'm afraid...!

PS: Live in the middle of the countryside, so tend to end up with dirt all over the place... -- hence my 'addiction' to fitting mudflaps to every car I buy...! ;)

proper fiat ones work superb for keeping dung off the doors and sills so a front pair is better than all 4 in my dohpinion
i wouldnt paint them either but just give them a plastic/rubber dressing every now and then to keep them crisp

everyone ive come up upon has been fastened with screws by the way and unlike say fords its never caused a corrosion problem apart from the screwdriver doesnt fit in the hole right good after a few years

your local fiat dealer will probably do you a good deal once they find the ones in stock and blow the cobwebs off them

hummm interesting...

im used to having mud flaps on my car and they do serve you well....

gutted fiat didnt make them colour coded :(
might have to go and see what they have....

I have genuine Punto mud flaps from the dealer on the back of my HGT but they were fitted by a body shop, i believe if you have the Active Sport/Sporting/HGT bumpers then the genuine ones are not designed to fit these bumpers and they are a total bitch to fit properly.

the front mud flaps also fowl the front wheels on lock but i suspect this is because of the HGT side skirts

I would assume this to be the case, too: as they fit my bog-standard Mk2 ELX perfectly; and the rear ones (which are specifically for the five-door) attach to the (bog-standard, five-door) bumper, where it forms the back of the wheel-arch....

Actually got round to fitting these today (after giving the car a good wash; and removing half of Warwickshire from the wheel-arches...)!

Ended up using three clamps each for the rears (after jacking each rear corner up, in turn); and the supplied clips for the front ones (after turning the wheels to full lock, each time...). :)

The rears were a veritable pain in the exhaust to fit; and I had to use a very short 10mm ring spanner to tighten up the clamps -- as there's not a lot of room back there. (The clips wouldn't fit easily at the back: as the plastic that the rear bumper is made of is quite a bit thicker than the metal of the front wings.... However, the clips went on relatively trouble-free at the front: and seem very secure. I shall keep my eye on them, though: as I have been told that they have a tendency to rust.)

Here's a handful of piccies (before I found the Back to Black that I'd cunningly hidden from myself in the boot...):

Hopefully, the front ones will stop so much agriculture making its way between the bottom of the doors and the sills; and the back ones from me joining in the seasonal muck-spreading festivities, when on the road.... We shall see...! (y)

neat fit:)
it will pay dividends in less washes needed

Ta! I hope so! The amount of crud* that came off the sills and door-bottoms today (after only a few hundred miles of driving since I washed, T-Cut and waxed the thing...) was pretty stupendous! Just need to make sure the wheel-arches don't end up clogged with stuff....

*The local recipe for crud, around here, consists of equal measures of sheep droppings; sileage; chaff from the harvest; topsoil; stagnant rainwater; and badger guts.... Pretty potent; and with the adhesive qualities of day-old milk-soaked Weetabix....

Watch the back ones. When one comes adrift it can shave half a tyre off in minutes , especially if it's got a metal insert in it.

Ta! Thankfully, they're just rubber.... However, I shall be checking the clamps and clips regularly: having once had something of an 'incident', many moons ago, in a Mk1 Ford Escort (albeit driven a silly speeds, on some fairly dodgy roads...)! (y)

i really want some mudflaps

Not only does it stop the spray up the side of the car

But helps reduce the amount of sandblasting the underside also gets!

Personally - i'd go fronts first then rears but the fronts are uber expensive really compared to the rears....

Yeah: the fronts -- for the Mk2b -- are still £35 on eBay; as opposed to £15 for the rears, from FIAT (for the three-door...).

I'm pretty sure, round here, that they're worth it, though: as both you and s and b say... -- especially as I'm planning on keeping the Punto going for as long as possible....

Just go to motor factors and buy standard black ones like most people buy,
paint them if you feel the need, but black always looks good on mudflaps
you cant colour code every inch of ur car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:p
