Hi Everyone

we bought our Punto about 6 months ago and the air filter wasn't secure, i used a cable tie to strap it down however i need a more sensible solution. pictured is where its snapped from the bolt and wondered if anyone had any advice on how to fix this?
the other bolt on the other side of the filter is perfectly fine but its kinda rocking

Issue two is the radiator fan, it simply doesn't spin and I wanted to try changing the fuse first before taking it to a garage, can someone please point out the correct fuse to check? I have ordered a haynes manual and still awaiting its arrival.

here is the issue three.. i believe that to be the rocker cover?

how good are you at drilling with filter removed check for clearance underneath the broken bolt to make sure it goes all the way through, sometimes the brass nuts spins out and then drill right thru having checked first,
heatshield fell off somewhere due to corroded bolts, bracket usually had a section to hook spring onto, yes oil leak from rc/gasket.
find the switch on rad and join the 2 wires together, keep clear of blades ,turn ignition on and if fan rotates fuse is ok.cover normally shows what each does.

thank you dirtyhands.. would you say that the heat shield plays an important part and would you recommend me putting another one on?

Its meant to reflect the heat back onto the cat
To Help warm it up quicker and maintain heat

But tbh, they all rust and start to rattle and shake

Mine came off ages ago on my old punto - just chucked it, not easy to refit them tbh....
More clips or Wire unless you fancy drilling and tapping into corroded material

Not worth it - i'd get it sprayed black anyway :)

The Radiator Fans Relay is the Top Left In red near where the group of 3 maxi fuses sit

You need to energise the coil to activate the relay and test for continuity on the power line

The Rocker cover is leaking quiet badly there.... Thats such a DIY job that you can do :)
the seals are about £6ish from local autofactors
Just remember to clean all the faces up well to prevent leaking again

aye bloody always leak:D i use a sealer under and over the seal makes it last longer, the heat shield is as said is a chuck job,but beware scorched fingers around that area:eek::yuck::cry::D

Yea thats something im doing when i replace mine
As they always leak, seal it up and hopefully it shouldnt leak at all

Wont need to keep nipping it every few k's as well

what are the actual causes which cause this rocker cover to screw up,
something like the heat which shrinks and expands it?
apart from leaking oil what other issues does this cause, performance?

seems like a very popular issue with the punto engines

i will take this on at the weekend as I got a rocker cover from europarts for £5 so
I will try and do it myself soon as i get a sprocket set. anyone from Swindon
here fancy giving me a hand :D lol

you changing the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets also:eek::eek::eek:,or do you mean picking up a socket set:D:D there is a difference.:bang::bang:

other issue would be the no smoking sign in car would be ignored due to oil on manifold burning off due to very bad oil leak from the gasket.:slayer:

Chickknock - its honestly simple

remove airfilter housing
Then undo the sensor that on the plastic housing near Belt cover
remove belt cover
4 bolts - remove and retain

remove old seal and any sealant
Clean the whole area up so its Dry and grease free
Refit new seal and sealant if using any
pop back together

The Rocker cover is a compression gasket, you dont need to compress it much, enough to make a seal

I think autodata say 5nm which is about as tight a fart
So Just lightly nip it down
and reinstall airfilter :)

As for the airbox - there should be a spring clip that hooks onto the rocker cover and upto the airbox - £1 probably from a scrappies :)

hahah i meant socket set! lmao i dont know where sprocket came from?
i shall tell the mrs to stop smoking until its fixed!
...but i wont mention it the mother in law. fingers crossed!!

i did the rocker seal! yay! thanks for breaking it down into simple form for me, it took literally 30 mins to do it. most of the time was used being careful getting the bolts off without snapping them. but it was really easy and extremely messy! is it usual to have dead flys and stuff in there??!?

i didnt use any sealer as i dont have access to any at the moment and one of the bolts was really easy to come off so i think the previous owner also did it, possibly the sealer not being present was why it had insects in there?
but if it goes again i will add sealer!

next plan is to tackle the radiator fan, is this controlled by a thermostat? am wondering its not working because its not hot enough? or should this come on the minute the engine is ticking over?

thanks again guys +1 kudos off the mrs!

fan should come on when temp gauge goes approx halfway mark
its ecu controlled
check fan isnt stuck by spinning it by hand for starters

iirc if you disconnect the temp sensor with the motor running the fan will come on straightaway but then you'll have a yellow eml lamp for the next two or three journeys until the ecu is convinced it really is reattached.

will it?
never tried that bit frightened it might cause a problem for the ecu?
are you sure it wil go out after so many turn keys too?
:)
last time i pulled this plug off to check coolent temp i used fiatecuscan to turn it off plus you can use this to acctuate it too
i have a wander lead made up from the wiring loom going to window glass motor to confirm fans work and just flash the leads onto the battery
