I know there are threads around about the handbrake but I can't find the information I require.

The handbrake on my Mk1 90 needs adjusting - I have fitted new shoes and adjusted them by pressing the brake pedel really hard, but the handbrake still doesn't hold very well.

I have taken the handbrake lever cover off and seen the adjustment nut, but I can't figure out how to get a spanner on it!

Can anyone help?

hmm onmy mk2 you get to the adjustment nut from insdie car but by removing the ash tray for rear passengers behind the hand break then there is a nut you adjust with an alen key. not sure what the mk1 is like

with a lot of effort would be the answer did this on my car yesterday.

need to get a 10mm spanner, move the passenger seat as far forward as it can go.. if you do this you should be able to get a spanner on it and be able to turn it approx a quarter turn at a time, really time consuming to do, possibly do it quicker if you have a rachet with a really long socket on it...
