Hello,

I have bought and fitted replacement brake shoes.

These were non OEM parts, from a reputable parts shop. Have a look at the image.

The original shoe is on the right, the replacement on the left (obvious from the grime!).

You can see that there is no handbrake cable retaining clip. There is no hole for the spring dowel that would hold such a clip, so it's not like it's just been forgotten.

Also, you can see that the leg that holds the end of the cable is longer.

I have fitted these, and don't seem to have a problem so far (2 weeks), so I am looking for advice on this.

I realise that it would be more ideal if there was a clip attached, but the only option (short of buying new) would be drilling, new spring dowel, and salvaging the old ones.
 
These are perfectly fine.

Mine where like this, I just crimped the hooked part closed using vise grips.

plus, that cable is pretty stiff, along with the outer protection coil wire, there not going to move out of the hook even if you dont crimp it.
