Hi All,

Was driving back from Weymouth to London yesterday when my engine managment light started flashing. After about 2 minutes it went out and then started flashing about 20 minutes later. Mangaed to get home but thought best to check the it out. Checked for errors and found that it was a misfire on cylinder 2. Any ideas what I should do? Car was serviced about 2 months ago which included having the cambelt changed. Never had this problem before and up till now not really had any problems with the car :D. BTW is a punto 1.2 8v. Any help would be much appreciated.

Mike

Check Cylinder 3 as well

If cyl is not firing nicly either - i'd suspect coil pack failure

But eitherway - start the cheap way
New plugs and HT's as there the cheap options
see if the fault is rectified

A compression test could forwell be in order
As it could be compression misfire

Ive checked the ht leads and sparks and they seem fine. The engine management light hasnt come bck on yet but it's driving like a dog :(. If the coil packs need replacing how much would i be looking. I'll prob get a garage to do it as im no mechanic.

Thanks Mike

weather conditions not mentioned but its possible water under the bonnet from heavy rain//spray could have caused miss fire

No need to replace all the coils, just find out which cylinder is the problem and I would change the coil on that cylinder only. Buy a

MaxiScan MS300 OBD2 EOBD II CAN BUS Code Reader Engine Diagnostic Scanner Tool

Well worth the less than £15 from various sellers on Amazon and eBay, tells you what your car's computer is sensing as the likely fault and allows you to reset the warning lights after you get fixed. Strongly suspect the coil though, especially if the spark plug looks fine (if sooty) on the cylinder that your diagnostic tool tells you is misfiring - simply because they break a lot after a few years of service.

all very true, (y)
worth doing leads also..,
TBH a lot if us USE "MES" as it's more accurate for Italian cars,
suspect the cars either fixed . or scrapped now though - 2012 ;)
