Hi,

Have a strange problem with my rear lights. Basically when i indicate left, the rear left brake light also lights up (dim). And when i brake, the indicator sometimes lights up (dim).

When i indicate both ways with headlights on, the rear lights dim a little as the indicator flashes on each side.

Round this out as the amber blown bulb light intermittently lights up on the dash. Used to be every now and again but seems to be getting more common.

Any help is much appreciated :)

Thanks

Earth problem more than likely. The main earth post for the lights is just inside the lower left hand side of the tailgate under the carpet although the problem is more likely to be at the light clusters themselves.

Agree, earth problem. One of the earth connections is corroded, usually by a water leak into it. This will cause the current to increase causing negative feedback to the other bulbs. It can also be caused by a faulty bulb or one wearing out so check those first for darkening of the bulb glass or rust around the bulbs metal connections.

OK thanks will check for worn bulbs, however would this cause the amber warning light to come when indicating left, and when braking ?

As its a ELX it has a sub, does this need to be taken out to take rear light cluster off ?

The warning light means the car has detected current differences between say left and right bulbs . so all bets are off if there is an earth problem. Don't have a sub.
It's not really the bulbs that will need checking , more likely the problem will be with the bulb holders.

Ok thanks for the help :) so what am i looking for then, checking all the earth connections first and see if it helps ?

Have a close look at the earth post in the boot first. Cleaning it up won't do any harm. Probably going to have to remove the light clusters and check out all the electrical connections and bulb seats for corrosion.

True but look at the bulbs first! If the glass is darkened or silvered it means the bulb is drawing more current than it should do. It will give you a better idea which area or light is playing up. If no sign of burning, then start looking at the holders.
