Just bought a punto sporting 1.6 (1997) recently and the timing belt snapped. I could really do with someone telling me the setting position for the upper and lower cogs. I know a guy who can do it no problem but he needs the setting first. Any help would be WELL appreciated!

Cheers

I don't think i would have damaged the engine as i was just turning a corner in a housing scheme when it happened. I was only doing about 10-15mph. Fingers crossed there isn't any damage done to engine.

Forgot to mention that i can't figure out how to get the new timing belt fitted. The problem is that i can't fit the belt in between the fan belt wheel and the protective casing around the timing belt bottom wheel/cog/whatever. I've ordered a hanes manual but i could really do with getting this sorted ASAP as i've no wheels at the mo......gutted! The hanes manual probably won't arrive for at least a few days so maybe no weekend cruisin for me.

Cheers Dave, i wasn't sure if i should be taking the pully off. I'll need to see if i can find a 32 or 34mm socket to fit the pully. I'll let you know if i get it sorted.
