I have taken my starter motor out of my punto today its a 2001 16V engine and the starter motor is turning but the thing is not shooting forward so in theory if it was in the car it is not shooting forward to engage with the flywheel do I need a new starter motor or not

theoretically it should only turn once the solenoid has sent if forward
the best answer would be change it because its obviously past its best and even if you give it a wack to get it going its going to stick again
