Hey guys,

Cars just failed its MOT for the hand brake not actioning on rear nearside wheel. I've had the drum apart for a look, everything seems OK, although I'm wondering....should the handbrake lever (the one in the drum) take its leverage from the hub or a different point, mine pushes against the hub to move the shoe out.

Cheers james

have you checked the condition and adjustment of the cable? there is usually an adjustor on drum brakes as well.

finally check the amount of material left on the shoe and that nothing has fouled it causing it to not work properly like oil, brake fluid or anything thats leaked from the shocks

Yeah the cable seems good, I might just get new shoes and try those, I've taken off the other side to compare and nothing seems different. I'm more worried about the pivot point, the off side one doesn't seem to touch the hub, yet the near side does!!

Sussed it, the slack adjusted was jammed on the near side wheel meaning the shoes had miles to move!!
