Hello fellow punto owners, i have had a wierd leak for the past 3 days, sometimes it doesn't even leak, but it leaks something that looks like motor oil right at the front right wheel, which is strange because the engine doesn't lose/need oil and all the other fluids are all fine aswell.

The whole wheel barring is filled with oil tho, but i cannot seem to figure out what the problem is, anybody else been having issue too?

Model: 2001 MK2, 16V 80HK

Positive, been driving in it for a few days now and checked brake fluid, it is for sure not the problem, i will look into the shock absorber, seems likely thats the problem, know anywhere i can find a guide on these? or how much it will cost me to fix it

There are lots of good threads on this site for changing front shock. I've never done it (yet, it's due very soon).

part cost is not too high, if you're doing it yourself.

The pain, I understand, is loosening the top allen bolt without stripping it. You'll also need offset ring spanner to access top retaining nut, or something similar.

It'll be obvious if it's knackered - there will be oily film leaking round it.

Certainly seems like it is indeed the front shock absorber, it has gotten a bit stiff aswell, for how long do you reckon i can drive on it? I am not very good at fixing cars on my own, but i have a friend who is a really good mechanic, should i change both front absorbers just to make sure the other one isn't about to god bad as well?

you can change one or both
both would be better

the bolts holding strut to hub can be a pain to undo even with power tools
strut bolt i find impossible without a windy gun
good luck

S and B is right.
Many garages say both at once, but they have an eye on making money.
When I did the my back shock, I only did the one, that's a much easier job.

As long as the other one is working OK, I think it's difficult to justify changing it, unless you're a bit of a masochist.
Clearly, it's probably a similar age, so may go soon. But my other back shock absorber is just fine by the same reasoning.

You will need a big lever to get the lower suspension bolts off, they're not too bad with a 12" breaker bar and a good 6 point socket.

With regards to how long you can drive it for - it's basically one of 2 things:
1. How long you can put up with the crap handling
2. It's an MOT fail (if they spot it....)

Well I'm gonna change it this weekend and it won't have to get checked before 2014 ;) so i will only have to worry about when i get time and money to fix this, by the way - can any of you guys recommend an induction kit for this car? :)

Alright, anyway you just saved my day, i thought i had to get it checked it for something really really bad at the shop and instead i can save some money and get some new spare parts myself and change them, but it makes sense, because the rest of the car and all the fluid levels are fine and the handling has been going downhill since it started doing it, but it isn't really that bad, just looking forward to playing around with my car :)

I appreciate the quick response and help! :)
