Hi all, new to punto's and my heads fell off with this one, before i start, i have looked through all the forums and posts i can for the last 3 days, ok hope someone can help, 2000 sporting 1.2 16v mk2 non cam sensor engine, driving along motorway 70/80, all of a sudden temp gauge goes up oil light comes on, loss of power, pulled onto hard shoulder, lifted bonnet and as you guessed oil everywhere, engine block ticking, extreamly hot, no water just lots of smoke, so yep head gasket gone bang, so cut a long story short mate had a rear end in his 2002, running sweet 59k cam sensor engine, so for a tidy 110 quid and some beer motor was mine.
Took engine outa mine with engine wiring loom, changed his loom for mine as there was i think 3/4 more connections on his, extra 02, air con, cam sensor, so to recap new cam sensor engine with my non cam sensor loom, i guess it would be ok just to leave cam sensor on just not connected ?
so go to start, hear fuel pump prime once turns over but no start, plugs out check for spark no spark, turn ignition on for second time about 20mins later no fuel pump prime ??
so hears my problem no spark and no fuel, now i know your all going to say crank sensor......tried both mine and me mates, also bought a new one, so its not that, checked all fuses all ok, havent got anything to check relays with except me eyes, keep reading about a white relay for the fuel pump, i dont have a white one under dash or in engine bay ??
Any ideas guys or anyone local to warrington can come and plug diagnostics in ??
Oh yes i have double checked and more all the connections/condition or wires loom, all the earths, etc
Only thing i can think of is the ECU ? has it got to hot in the engine bay before the head gasket blew ?
There is a live going to the middle pin of the coil pack (only one on mine), no live feed to crank sensor. Is there anymore fuses or relays that i dont know about ?
Sorry for the long post, but i wanted to be as discriptive as possible so as not to waste anyones time, any help/ideas are most welcome, other wise the petrol can and matches are coming out !!!!
Once again thanks in advance

Very unlikely to be the ECU. My guess, something isn't plugged in correctly (and there are a few connectors which can be plugged in the wrong way).

If no spark and no fuel past the injectors, TDC sensor. In your case, you don't seem to be getting fuel to the injectors, which would possibly indicate the main relay.

Hi fingers thanks for the reply, hoped you might be able to help, iv read alot of your posts and replys on here, so the main relay, what colour is it and where is it ?, im sorry i dont have a handbook. Also sounds a bit daft where is the tdc sensor located, iv seen a reply about this before, thanks

the really obvious thing to do is put your original bottom pulley on this engine
innit
so cranky sensor can read it for your loomy

yep thought of that one, i changed it for my origanal one anyways as the later engine had air con, therefore two belt bottom pully, so it not that, but thanks for your reply

does the crank sensor go near enough to the pulley to read it and is it lined up correctly to read it
ie is the pulley in the same place on your old block as in this engine

Very good point by the green one. Air gap should be in the region of 0.5mm, and head of sensor should be central.

It's the one at 3 o clock to the crank pulley.

Check also that peg on crank/cam pulley fits in hole in alternator pulley.

hes gone:rolleyes:
didnt stay long did he:slayer:

im still here and will be, just had a quick shower after the footy, be in bed soon tho, fookin work, be still a round for the forseeable, right ok havent measured the crank sensor gap will have a look tomorrow, from what i can remember the position is the same on both engines, ie the same casting, but i will check, not sure on the crank/pin on the alternator pully, when i changed the crank pully over there was a kinda little pin from the crank that lined up with the pully ie only go on one way, so i made sure that was right, never touched the alternater, just changed the brackets, same holes and castings on both engines so the alternator and crank line up ok with the origanal pully, thanks again, any help is more than welcome

I've no diagram, is the problem. If there is something which corresponds to the thing on the 8v cars, it's a white box, about the size of 2 standard relays (which is, in effect, what it is). Somewhere in the engine compartment.

There will be a diagram in the Haynes, but all the online ones are missing the wiring diagrams.

I know mate iv been searching for a wiring diagram most of the afternoon, can't find one anywhere, just had a look at the fuse box in the engine bay, there is no white one, also checked the gap on the crank sensor that's within tolerance too, must be a fuse or relay causing the problem, as I said iv checked and double checked all the connections are on there is no loose wires, all fuses are live on both sides, just so frustrating mate

Evening guys, thought id let you know cars running fine now, one of them really stupid things that we miss every now and then, OK fault was front crank pulley, my original engine didn't have air con, new one did, therefore 2 belts running from the crank, as i don't have air con i swapped it for my original pulley, when i looked closer in daylight this morning instead of by light at night, the crank sensor was reading the belt lol, so swapped back to the twin pulley crank wheel that came with the original engine, and hey presto all lined up sweet and fired up first time, so the moral of the story is, later cam sensor head, with air con engine will go into a early non crank sensor no air con engine bay just leave the original crank pulley on !!!!! :bang:

haha so there ya go, hope this helps anyone in the future, and thanks for the replies, to my post :D
