hi, i have a punto active 2004 1.3 and it is over fuelling. It was misfiring and had black smoke at the back. so we changed the coils, HT leads and the coolent temp sensor. most of the codes went off (there were about 5 codes previously) .we have two codes still on, coolent temp sensor and the inlet temp sensor?changed an injector and this made the mis firing considerably less. (i called an AA guy out he said it was over fuelling-hence the juddering) the garage tried to put a new ecu but he said it didnt work...i need help! i live in surrey and i heard that if i remapped the ecu this would help seeing as we changed the coolent sensor? oh and the fan comes on straight away all the time but it is not over heating!

i have noticed the temp gauge on the dashboard does not work- could this be causing it?how do i get this to work?we checked all the fuses...

any help would be much appreciated!!! im at my wits end-no one knows how to fix it :(

First thing I would check is the wiring to the coolant sensor. If it's disconnected the fan comes on immediately and you would be seeing a red temp warning light and the yellow eml light. Any of this sound familiar?

ive had 2 do this in the past month
both due to stuck thermostats causing temp sensor to run nuts because there was no water on it
i suggest you remove and replace thermostat soonest and bleed and try again

We checked the wiring to the coolant sensor and voltage and its fine. We did live stats and for some reason the 2 sensors it keeps saying are malfunctioning are the coolant temp sensor and air intake sensor.

The live stats showed both sensors at minus 6.

The fan starts on ignition

The temp gauge is not working.... does this have its own sensor or could someone show me pic of where the wires lead? the AA guy seemed to think if we can get the temp gauge working it should solve the problem as the engine might think its cold and hence overfueling???

Any help would be appreciated

Ahh Thermostat - do you have a pic of where this is located? I'm a complete newbie to engines and learning as i Go along.....

And so it gets worse!(I've only had the car3 weeks)last week the battery went dead-i assumed it wa because of a wrongly inserted stereo.we put a new battery and it is dead in a week!help! I have been told by the garage that if the coolant temp sensor wire is unpluggd it still starts and has same issues? Should I cut my losses and just flog it?!
