Another dreaded airbag warning light thread  :p I have done some reading already.

VERY intermittently the drivers airbag light will flash on and off. It doesn't stay on, and seems to do it more when I brake (even VERY light braking).

I'm assuming it's a loose wire or an earthing fault, but have ordered a KKL and ELmscan interface to read the codes with FES and the right adapters.

Anybody had anything similar?

I also get a very rare flash of the PAS light, so will code read that as well. That's whats leading me to think it may be an earth issue.

Any tips or tricks though?

Cheers,

Kristian

Disconnect the battery at least 30 minutes before doing anything on the airbags circuits. Fail to do this and you could have an airbag explode in your face. At the very least you will have the warning light on permanently.

Remove the glove box and make sure the yellow connector up to the top right is not dirty use contact cleaners and unplug/plug it a few times. If the car has airbags in the seats there are similar connectors underneath the seats which also need to be cleaned etc.

Reconnect the battery.

That flashing will turn into a Code 14 probably
i too have the dreaded flashing airbag when i use the brakes sometimes

Fiat Ecu Scan - is a god send for keeping the light out
I've yet had time to have a look at the airbag....

Many people have said its the ignition earthing issue - which is on the center console area on the driver side.... could be tricky to reach

So, does this common airbag switch connector cause the red airbag light to come on? I'd have assumed (maybe wrongly) it would have caused a fault on the orange passenger airbag light.

Cheers for the earth location, I shall try and find my way to it.

I have cleaned the switch connectors anyway, but it didn't make a difference.

Are there service manuals / schematics available for the mk2? I shal have to try and find some.

see what kkl and lead says
last problem i had a change of passenger airbag solved the issue

forgot to blow up the old one though.......damm

Mine pulls up both..

Red airbag light flashes every now and again but if it decides to stay on, both red and amber come on.

Why is the airbag warning ligh a problem? Is this an MOT failure?

I ask as mine stays on all the time.
