I posted this in the ICE forum aswell, just trying to get a qucker response.

I recently bought an 04 active sport, and i really want to put in my old Kenwood KDC W4041 stereo in as it has a usb port where i can put all my music. I've been to halfords three times in the last week as there is always a problem after another, first the guy said apparently for my car they need to run a live feed or something, and he wasn't qualified to do this and i would need to see someone else, then, the fascia i bought didn't fit, and we tried two different types: it fits in, but it doesn't clip in at the top giving that snap to show its secure, and now the cage is pretty mangled! but that i can try and change.
So i am here asking for help, as i am going to try and do it all myself now, so i was wondering if some one can point me in the right direction of a fascia that will fit for sure? and how i can run a live feed or whatever he meant?
As you can tell I'm a bit of a newbie, but I've heard this live feed issue is quite a common problem with fiat's or French cars as the halford guys told me. so any help would be appreciated.

also, i was wondering for the live feed issue, do you think a standard Punto ISO adapter would solve the problem? instead of having to cut wires or taking out the dash?

Can't comment on that particular head unit, but I fitted my 5 year old Sony head unit to my 1.2 04 Punto and it really was a 5 minute job. Needed a new fascia and wiring adapter and nothing else, just plug it all in and go. Only thing is, the car appears to have a constant live to the head unit so I have to remember to turn it off, or find the battery flat in the morning lol.

Ah, as far as the fascia went, I got one from a local car audio place and it doesnt really snap into place either, but when I put the cage in and bent the tabs it tightened the fascia up and it doesn't move around or creak or anything

The wiring adapter thing you're talking about is what i need i think for the live feed, can you tell me more of this? is this what some people sell on ebay as a ISO adapter??

I would say so yes. I had a Pug 306 before my Punto, when I fitted the Sony into that I just needed a standard adapter lead. But, IIRC when I tried the same adapter in the Punto it didn't fit and I needed a Punto-specific lead, but it was a while back when I did it.

TBH I just avoided Halfords, dropped into a local car audio specialist, told him what car it was and he sold me the correct bits. Cost me about fifteen quid, dunno how that compares with prices of stuff from eBay etc. but for the sake of having a shop to consult and to get the bits in my hand I think it was worth it. Lol swapped the head unit over in their carpark :)

Just to be certain, is it an adapter wit he grooves resembling the back of the stereo, and not the Arial adapter? because i have that already.

hi kieron121 no matter what these guys on ebay tell you those leads arent plug and play to the fact i even advised one of the power sellers this fact
i now join the red and yellow leads clip all the others bar the black one and advise that the front of the radio is unclipped so as not to drain the battery
so far all the units ive fitted which fair enough isnt dozens have not flattened the battery over the weekend
the fascia panel shown is the one you want but you need to make sure the radio fits fully in the dash first as they have one clip pony fastenings

i would suggest he modifies his supplied iso leads and then when car sold these just unclip and he can put back in original radio

ah i see why i couldnt quote the post above as it disappeared?

abors post has reappeared after this one now

im out................

Definately don't go cutting wires, it becomes a mission and if you want to put the original head unit back in then you've got a problem...

I was gonna say go for it, with the eBay guy but the more I think about it I'd say go to an audio dealer. You're looking at not much extra, and for the peace of mind and the personal touch sort of thing then I think its worth it. And if they give you the wrong bit then its easy to sort out...

Radio wiring adaptor off eBay is fine, fiat used the Can-bus system to tell the standard radio if the ignition was on or off this means there is no switched live at the back of the stereo, hence having to turn the radio on and off manually. if this is a problem for you then I would advise running a single wire to the cig lighter socket which is switched with the ignition, this will allow you to turn the radio off with the ignition.
What ever you do, you will need a wiring adaptor! plugging the radio straight into the cars wiring risks damaging the can-bus system, which will cost you a fortune to fix and controls/influences pretty much every function of the cars electronics.
The advantage of this is if you want to go back to the original you just unplug the adaptor.

ok, so is the ebay link i posted the best option? man it's so much effort, i'm just annoyed with finding other people to do it for me, as it never works out.
can anyone suggest a car specialist aside from halfords?

Yeah should work ok, you should also be able to buy all of that off the shelf in halfords

Where do you live I'm sure you must have a car audio shop near by? Halfords are more often than not a bunch of untrained teenagers so you definitely can't describe them as 'car specialists'

just to reiterate there is no unswitched power point on the can lead so unless you join both yellow and red up and take the face off the stereo if it hasnt got a proper power down battery you will flatten the battery over a weekend

so are you saying if i use the the adapter, and even switched of the stereo maunally the battery will still drain? getting the parts today hopefully. what do you suggest i do if it doesn't work? without altering wires? as i'm pretty confused as to which are the right ones to link up.

Ok, so the bits came, the pins for removal worked, the fascia clips in nicely, and the cage fits in perfectly, but like S and B pointed out the adapter didn't work

then some one suggested i connect the yellow and red wires together which i did, but was it the ones at the back of the head unit i was to mess with?

any way still didnt work. and where does my arial adapter go?
here?

any way i know im a step closer i just need some more help.

please help! :-(

and to make matters worse the orignal blaupunkt cd player is asking me for a code all of a sudden, it never did this before since i bought it, and i can't find the code in the booklet anywhere, just the page that tell me about the secret code! any suggestions?

you need one of these to get your aerial to work, did you not get one of these in the kit?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Aeria...4?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3a4dc42f38

the lead you bought in the last picture split the two plugs apart
one will have red and yellow and black wires
chop all others on this lead and tape up so they cant short
join the red and yellow leads by baring and ideally soldering together

leave black

plug into th

wait i caNT SEE THE PLUG ON THE END OF THE LEAD COMING OUT OF YOUR PLAYER SHOW THAT IN A CLEAR PICTURE
