Im wanna get a CD player to replace the crappy tape, if I took my Punto to Halfords does anyone know if they could fit one for me? I dont want a fancy CD player just a just something that plays something more advanced than tapes! I took my car there to get my brake light changed and they couldnt do it for me so can they do much to Puntos? Oh yeah its a W reg ELX 1.2 8v if that helps! :)

Yep, I think they fit stereos you have bought there FOC for certain ones. Argos ofer the same service. If you know someone who would have a go or fancy doing it yourself you can as usual get good ones from Ebay, also Aldi have good deals on from time to time.

Make sure you get an adapter for a DIN sized stereo, otherwise it won't fit. I got mine from Fiat, but I'm sure other people will be able to tell you if these can be picked-up elsewhere.

You'll enjoy the sound. My speakers are standard but my head unit is pretty good (Blaunkpunkt Modena I think) which was £120-odd. Soon descovered it was the rubbish Fiat head-unit letting me down before (y)

You will now have a stereo that doesn't loose a radio station if a Pigeon passes wind within 50 miles of your car :bang:

The alternative to a new head unit is to get a CD-Changer fitted. I had one put in nearly 4 years ago and it solved my desire for more/better music. The quality over casette is noticable, and it's a little louder as well. Plus having 10 CDs at my beck and call is nice. Blaupunkt CDC-A08 is the model compatable (although they've done a silver one since which should work). You can get them off ebay, or I went to my local car audio place who supplied and fitted it for a good price (much better than Fiat dealer).

Or if you have an iPod, then take a look at this.

You will regret buying a cheapo nasty CD player, buy at least £150 worth (e.g £150 stereo for £100 on discount electronic spots, like dabs.com, pixmania.co.uk etc).

I just got an Alpine CDE 9828, which is very nice, £250 rrp, got mine for £148 from pixmania, and don't buy one from halfords unless you want the fitting, as my local have a lower model CDE 9827 (which is very nearly the same), in used/ ex demo condition going for £220 with no fitting. joke or what!!

Cheapo cd players tend to skip, like the pants goodmans thing (if it even deserves that title) which skipped all the time and took forever to change volume and track etc. plus buttons where fidely.

Buy either an alpine a blaupunkt a clarion, or a higher end pionneer. Then your more or less guarenteed something decent.

You can easily get decent headunits for less than £100 off the net. And they're not the nasty Goodmans trash either, Clarion/Pioneer/Blaupunkt/Sony can be had at this price.

If you're not at all practical with doing things like this, then fair enough Halfords will fit one for you (whether or not its only units they've sold, I dont know) If not look up auto electricians in the Yellow Pages. But it is a relatively easy job to do in a mk2 Punto; if youre installing a basic, non-motorised panel headunit.

If you'd like a step-by-step guide i'll happily type one out for you...... :)
