hi,whats the procedure for changing the coolant mk 2 punto.
do you have to flush the system,or is it enough just to drain out the old stuff,
tks,
tony:slayer:

Drop it out the bottom hose , fill and bleed and bleed and bleed. Shouldn't need a flush unless it's been neglected and weak watery coolant has allowed corrosion and stuff to build up. Be aware that backflushing with the rad still connected to the motor can flush muck into the block and also flushing whether by garden hose or chemical often reveals leaks that the muck was sealing especially older cars.

having yesterday changed another thermostat just in time before it did the engine in (gates £17 quality nice article) im not a fan of flushing unless there is already a problem
i have no time for stop leak type products either
so undo bottom hose as said if what comes out looks clean just replace hose fill up bleed and bobs your stepfather

did i mention thr minute ho;le for water to get through in the thermostat housing if thermostat stuck shut as they always do?
no???? well i am now,i reckon a thermostat change should be done on a 2 yearly basis on these engines if you want to keep h/g blues away

You paid £17 for a patern part when you could have gone genuine for the same price. Why

And what are you on about the little hole for if it gets jammed shut  that not what the hole is for you know ;)

i wouldnt call a gates part a pattern part
the hole is to let a little pressure through but it isnt big enough if the thermostat has stuck shut:)

Well if not a patern part is must be genuine surly

Yeah who hole is to stop the coolant from not flowing at all and becoming stagnant in the rad etc on the cars in some of the colder climates where the thermostat may not properly open for weeks at a time :)

if i went to the dealer and bought a thermostat from them it would likely say fiat on the box but knowing my local fiat dealer it would probably say made by whoflungdung
gates make timing belts as oe equipment for most of the best manufacturers in the world and i would trust their products to the end of the world, the product was good quality as i inspected it carefully and it even had a hologram on the box that showed it was direct from the manufacturer.
i would expect they make them for fiat by the way.
