Hi All. I've been an owner of various Fiats (Uno 45/1.9D, Mk1 Punto 1.7TD, Mk2 Punto 1.9JTD) They have all been great reliable cars over the years and next week will be purchasing my fifth Fiat which will be a GP 1.3 Mjet 90bhp.

This leads me to my problem after five years of hassle free motoring my 2001 Punto 1.9 JTD has decided to throw the law of sod into the equation a week before i sell it. The dreaded Injection system Failure light has decided to grace itself on the dash. The car still seems to be running okay though apart from the Mpg bouncing around a bit and it has recently suffered a flat battery but apart from that all seems apparently normal.

I was considering purchasing a AOBD/EOBD(?)scanner to read the fault myself or running the car to the garage around the corner who would do it for £25 plus VAT. Also i am looking to try and get this fixed(not just the warning light erased) for as little outlay as possible as i'm just trying to get shot of the motor. Is there anything in particular i should be looking for because of this warning light or could it mean any multitude of thing could be wrong that only an ecu scan will reveal?

Apologies if that's a bit long winded i was hoping i might just be able to get a few pointers to what could be the problem.

Thanks Ziggy122. I don't suppose you could give me an idea of which lead it is that i would need. I can see quite a few on Ebay some say only suitable for diesels built from 2004 onwards whilst my Punto is a 2001 Y plate. I don't want to go ordering an incompatible lead.

Opted in the end to get a U480 scanner as putting my monster gaming case and 24 inch monitor in the car wasn't really a valid option ;)
Any ways the reader showed no errors so i cleared the screen and the Injection System Failure light has now gone. :D And to think the local diesel specialists wanted to charge £70 for what to me was 5 minutes of my time and £17 for the scanner.
I'm a happy bunny now!
