under the bonnet....
Hello,

I posted a few days ago about my starter motor not getting any power but had no luck even called RAC out and they said it could be a bad starter but I highly doubt that it's a new starter, that was fitted in 2010 according to the Service History the battery had a voltage check done by RAC and came up as 12.67v so all good there but what puzzles me is the battery & oil light stay on when you attempt to start the car.

All other dashboard lights go out after a split seconds, but these two remain on I've done a bit of research and people have said the battery and when I brought the car the guy told me it's not the standard battery for this car, which gives me the conclusion it doesn't have the right power to keep the car powered?

Here's a video I did when trying to start the car, all electronics work in the car e.g. Stereo, A/C, lights, etc.

This issue is really bugging me now just want to get to the bottom of it :bang:

I'd appreciate any help, thanks in advance! :D

Are you trying to start the car in the video?
If so it seems like no power getting to the starter motor then. Could be a broken wire or maybe wasnt a new unit fitted when it was replaced

Yeah I was trying to start the car in the video, but it's kind of difficult to tell wherever it's a broken wire or not because I have no ramp to put the car on lol the car was working perfectly not yesterday but the day before that? I just checked again it's a brand new unit fitted on 29/1/2011.

does the car not have airbags? i didnt see the Airbag self test
Nore the PAS self test..... Which all punto's mk2 do have....

As for the Other warning lights you see - thats normal

As questioned - you telling it start at that point?
I've had this before where the key seems todo NOTHING

My fault never really reappeared after a couple of months of doing it

But i wonder now these days if the Power Cable from the Alternator/Starter to battery was at fault as it was breaking its connection?

Might be a worthwhile check

Could consider bumping it see what happens?

Ziggy

Well if you are 100% confident it's not what we suggested that only leaves the starter motor?

However given there is no starter solenoid click I am still pretty sure it's an engine earth problem
