I have a fiat punto 1.2 active 8v 60K

This past week ive noticed when my car is on low fuel (warning light on) the car wont start in the morning and the clock resets. I have to try 3 times to get it started, after that, it starts/runs fine for the day. When i fill the car up, it starts fine too...

Whats the problem? Why does it not start with low fuel anymore? Why does the clock reset ?

Thank you very much!

get the battery drop tested, to make sure its good voltage and good cells.

if its ok, stick it on charge over night, if not replace with a new one.

or try sticking some garbage in the mr fusion, half a can of miller and a few banana skins should do it!

Saying a car won't start is like saying you have a bit of a cough, you could have lung cancer or it could just be a cold, either way this unnecessaryly long explanation could have been avoided had I just go to the point in the first place, which is.....

What is the car doing when it fails to start? Turn over or not? Any specific warning lights on dash? Empty sugar bags left suspiciously near the fuel filler cap? You get the idea a lite more info would be useful, finally if it does think its a delorean then it might be an idea to see if a drop of plutonium will help (just watch out for libians)

As explained by Doc Brown in BTTF3, Mr Fusion only powers the time circuits and the Flux capacitor, but the internal cumbustion engine runs on ordinary gasoline, so unforunately the previous suggestions of garbage or Plutonium for the Mr Fusion are completely useless!

Still think it could be battery related.

HAHA you guys..

Well, the car just doesnt start and dies then i turn it again and it does the same till it eventually starts. As for warning lights, they all come on as they would when you start the car. It may be the battery not being able to pump the petrol ? **** knows..

OH

and this only happens when there isnt much petrol in the car , as in, the petrol warning light is on, it never used to happen like that though.

it does sound like the lift pump is a bit weak and or struggling. ?non return valve letting the fuel run back into the tank when the car is stood.

but i agree with statements as above about the battery make sure its in good order it might need a water top up and charge or replacement, failing that plutonium ;)

The clue is in the clock reset - the battery is fubar or you have some very dirty main cable connections..

Clean the battery terminals so you have good electrical contact. Also clean the black earth lead where it bolt to the chassis and the engine.

But dont expect much. Its most likely the battery has an internal fault in one cell thats dropping the system voltage so the clock resets and lost of stuff other wont work properly.

If you remove the plastic battery box you will have space for a larger and cheaper battery. But don't skimp, the power steering needs a good supply to keep it happy.
