you would need a code reading to see why engine management light came on
assuming the plug on the back of the speedo is tight i would consider it you had a blip/hiccup say if it was cold or maybe the battery terminals are loose

if steering light came on but went after a restart, this is pretty indicative of a dying/weak battery.

some times with load battery this can cause other problems with electrical systems especially when you start the car and all the power is taken for that purpose. things like random warning lights needles moving about etc all possibilities in this case.

engine management light could be an error on low voltage somewhere in the system but as S and B says you need the codes read by a garage to be sure.

is the ECU light still on?

other than that give the battery a good 5-6 hour charge with a charger if you can or consider getting a new one so as not to end up stranded somewhere

hey guys thanks for the reply, ive been out to my car this morning and tested the battery but it reading that there is loads of life still left in it nothing wrong with it at all, ive rang a friend and he's gonna run it on the computer tomoorow. it just bugs me that i dont know whats wrong with the car! ive never owned a fiat before so havent got a clue..........!

thanks clare x

How have you tested the battery? If its just by using a voltmeter thats no good, needs to be drop tested.

Have you checked the fuses for the dash, f37 and f53

:yeahthat:
Drop testing involves a special tool that effectivly shorts the terminals of the battery (safely) drawing a huge current and then measures the voltage drop

Checking you have 12volts with a multimeter doesn't confirm you have a good battery

we used a tester from work dont know what it is but i work for euro car parts and we check faulty batterys and the guys test with it all the time! they told me the battery is fine, i might pop outside now and test the fuses cheers guys

just been out and check these's fuses look fine they had a little brown stain on the pins but i wiped clean it off but aint made no difference to the function of the car!

thanks clare x

Re:NOW HAVE CODES!! problem with dash lights etc pictures for HELP

hey all just been to my mates and got a code up on the reader and it is reading 420 if this is any help or anyone know what this reads i'd be thanksful for your help.

cheers clare

hi p0420 relates to either a faulty cat or lambdas out of spec
its usually caused by fitting cheap rubbish copies of oe equipment

thank you, i just checked with work and it would cost me £160 quid for aftermarket copies not FIAT parts :( for a cat and lamb sensor that b4 fitting i wounder now why i got the car cheaper then what they are on the market for.

thanks clare

hi
as i said at the top unless it reoccurs it might just be a blip so at this stage i would be unconcerned
check to make sure you haven't got a leak near the cat and that the lambdas are in tight
consider having a gas emissions test to see if car running correct fuel mixture would be the next thing if light reappears:)

Thank you very much for your reply and thanks for the help! I still don't get why the problem I have on the dash as he's reset the engine management light but the dials are sittiIng two low on the clocks (needles) there must be a reason why it's doing this?
