Technical outcome from port and polished TB.....

if you are just talking polishing the TB then the 'Horse power' increase is going to be negligible. it is such a small alteration to the overall performance of an engine even an increase of 1-2bhp is going to be unlikely
Porting will confuse the ecu via throttle position sensor and basically the amount of air entering the engine is now far greater than that expected by the ECU. causing to run lean and thus lose power. however the readings from the lambda sensors should feed back to the ECU that the car is under fueling and correct this over time, but you may still find overall that you actually lose out without a proper remap and suffer high idle speeds and idle 'hunting' by the ecu

if you are going to go down this route it is much better to get the whole head, intake manifold and intake system polished, and whack a sports Cat on it. then get the ECU remapped or the cheaper and easier option.... buy a 1.4 sporting?

If I were going there, I'd be inclined to fit a TB from a FIAT with a larger one -- maybe Bravo/Brava (folk have been replacing the FBW 1.4 16v TB with these for Cento fitment) -- I think they even use the same connector -- and then re-map. (Most of the 1.4 16v Cinqs use aftermarket ECUs).

Back in the SPI days life was much easier, but the Euro3 ECUs are fussy beasts.

I don't get this....I went to RS tuning to have the punto remapped ages ago...I has enlarged throttle port polished, ported inlet, 4-2-1 manifold, de-cat, straight pipe and custom de-restricted backbox, custom induction kit

They said it will only give 2BHP extra with the remap, went ti around 10 places all said same these are custom remaps not generic and all said same

How ever people with GSR induction kit think they get 10bhp with a induction kit alone?? Now either there living or the remap place...but why would a remap place want to avoid getting 300quid lol

Im sure I seen. It quoted on here that GSR remapped give 10bhp?? I may be wrong but im sure I seen it mate

Yeah ive seen the RR graphs of the increase and iirc it was just over 10bhp but tbh that could have been the differences on the day or maybe even the rollers but im not sure, i doubt that an induction kit alone can do that but i would gladly be proved wrong lol

To get the full effects of any upgrade you need to upgrade everything. Just changing the TB wont do much because other systems are restricting the gas flow.

Fit a tubular manifold and sports cat with freeflow system
Port the head
Fit free flow inlet manifold and appropriate TB. Too big kills performance)
Free flow inlet system
Consider a fast cam
Custom remap to suit all the mods.

Any one or two of the above (except remap) will do very little and usually reduce fuel consumption and/or driveability.

Having remapped an engine before i know there are A LOT of options. The Issues come when mapping fuel and ignition timing because you can destroy an engine if you get it wrong. i.e. 2 seconds of detonation can melt the pistons and write off an engine. (A smaller road car's engine will last longer of course due to lower combustion temps.)

I was able to get 60-80BHP more from the Vauxhall's VXR engine while working in the labs. So engine was out of the car while mapping it. Mapped to keep the lamda reading at what ever it was.(y)

Sadly the bigger "race" engine was written off by the tutor :p Big hole in the side of it after the piston blew. The cost of which was over £70k.
So i would Assume that most tuning companies would want to map in the "safe" region which is known to be free from detonation while remapping the engine hence why they say they would only get around 2BHP gain?

Possible case of "we don't know how to do it"?

I don't think there are many who think a GSR alone will give 10bhp, though.

Where is a good place to have it remapped then like where does everyone else get there punto 1.2 8v mapped from as I saw once in PMK2 Forum someone got 97bhp I think it was from a NA engine with the following mods I listed aboveand a remap
