Hi All,

Im new to this forum so hope you can help.

Just bought a late 2003 (facelift) punto active sport 1.2 8v

Its been well looked after, great history, 84000 miles.

I trest drove it miles and it was fine BUT the other morning when I started her up theres some gurgling noises going on! Sounds like the heating system or similar. Any ideas ? It doesnt sound right!

Also - Passenger window gets stuck. Goes up a bit. You then have to pull it a bit more....Goes up a bit....help a bit and so on.

Other than that its good!

Jamie:)

try doing a bleed of the system as these puntos are always doing this because of the design of the heater pipes going much lower than they need before going up to the heater matrix,im thinking of investing in a pressure refill device to overcome this annoying problem that even after trying everything still comes back every now and then
with regards your window you could try removing the door card to confirm the mechanism is all bolted up correctly and tight
make sure you have lubed the runners that the window slides in anything from a silicone spray to wd40 or even a drop of fairy liquid would help
last thing is its possible the window has been out and the plasric locator that keeps the window from tipping has been lost/broken but you would need to remove the window from the winding mechanism to be sure its not there

Thanks mate - Much appreciated.

Shoud I be worried about head gasket or similar ? I heard once that the gurgling could mean imminent head gasket problem but cant see how it would be connected ?

Thanks again - Your time helping is appreciated!

Jamie

its got an air blockage in the system and while its not ideal unless your water level is very low i wouldnt overconcern myself
someone will probably be along in a minute of course and tell you how history was changed because theirs gurgled

as i say do do a bleed of course starting with radiator top right bleed then going to the one on the pipes behind the engine, engine moderately hot ideally on an upward slant too

Gurgaling can mean HG

But if its just a coolant flush, air can sometime be stuck
So i'd be bleeding it - keeping an eye on temperature and water levels

Thanks - Just has a good look. Got car warm. Car was a bit low on water so topped up. Also did a bleed. Seemed not alot of water getting through top rad hose. Is that normal ?

if yours is the sporting it has those nice big heavy 3 door windows which will take there toll on the motor and my betting is that the motor is now a bit worn and weak, and will probably need replacement soon

you could try taking the door pannel apart (for some reason fiat used about a million screw clips and fasteners for this) and see if you can grease the runner and tracks and also check for any damage

as for the gurgling answered above by others but yeah what they said bleed the system lol
the concern with this is the air moves to the engine block which then prevents that part of the engine block receiving any cooling which then causes uneven cooling and distortion in the metal parts leading to HG failure, is does need to be a pretty large amount of air though

Regarding the pressure bleeding device mentioned above , I have taken to filling the rad to the neck and upending a 500ml water bottle full of coolant on the filler and blasting the living c**p out of it. Just when you think all the air is out, it isn't , especially the screw on the heater hose.
