Have a 1.2L 8V Punto Mia. The car is going to fail its MOT in May, and as a result will either be scrapped or sold to someone as spares/repair.

Contemplating swapping out the speedo cluster for one with a rev counter and temperature gauge.

My question is, if I swap it out, then put the old one back in for when I sell it on.. is the mileage going to be correct. Is it going to be flashing or anything like that ?

I know that the swapped out one is going to flash the mileage because it needs to be aligned but I'm not going to bother as its for such a short amount of time.

pardon my supidity?
BUT if you know its going to fail the MOT in when ever
surly means its NOT upto MOT standard now? so therefore you SHOULDNT be on the road?

As for Swapping to a active dash then back to stock
The stock will flash as the cars milage will have changed - and be out of sync with the car

The airbag light is on. That's why it's going to fail. Nothing wrong with the car mechanically, just a corrupt ECU.

Ah, in which case I wont bother. I'd have done it if it wasn't going to flash when I put the stock back on.

Sorry am I missing something here, but if your convinced the car is going to fail it's MOT in May and is going to be sold/scrapped why bother swapping the speedo cluster??

Sounds a little strange to me

Ahh what a loada crap. Didn't think they'd actually bring that in. Just remove the airbag bulb or take cluster apart and cover the bulb (y)

But his car has airbags

So they'll want to see an Airbag Indication Bulb for malfunctions and the ignition Prechecks

No bulb when airbags are clearly fitted = Fail :(

has the airbag actually got power going to it okay?

It was because I'd have the joy of a rev counter / temperature gauge. Just to see where the thing redlines because at the moment its all guess work. Just a bit of fun.

It's not a problem with the airbag, its a fault with the ECU. Been on two different diagnostic machines, and both came back saying the same thing. The car's not worth alot as it is, so there's no real point paying to have it fixed.. especially as I was going to be selling it in may anyway.

If you plan to sell/scrap it don't spend money on bits which will be no use and cause more problems

Would be far easier and cheaper to fit an after market rev counter to the A pillar you could even have one with a built in shift light.........oooooh shift light!!!!

very easy to fix - either get someone to rewrite the eprom on the ecu, or get a 2nd hand ecu that is ok.

or a cheeky 'fix' cut the track on the pcb that goes to the led for the airbag then solder the led end to the engine check led etc
