Hi,

Last week I had an accident with my Fiat Punto MK2, luckaly there are no injuries, but the damage is bad...

I'm going to look at the car graveyard for several body parts.
The headlight, sidepanel, bumper and the bonnet need to be replaced.

Can I change these parts by myself? And whats the best way to do this?

Other tips are welcome.

Here is the picture of my car...

I'd be going to a scrappy thats for sure :)

Lights make sure you have same bulb type H1 or h7 and if you have fog lights that the new set also have fogs

The Bumper if money is tight - you can tape up for now

But the wing and bonnet are scrap metal mate :(

Good pieces to practive machine polishing on

When you get the wing off make 100% sure the inner wing hasn't crumpled. If it has moved (even slightly), the bolts wont line up and it will need a new inner welding in.

Dont be tempted to make do because the inner wigs absorb energy in a crash and will simply collapse when they have previously taken a big enough hit. Also you will never get the new wing and bonnet to line up so do the checks and if necessary bite the bullet.

as said its all replaceable at home, iv done it and im rubbish with cars :p it is a fiddly frustrating job though

its a massive help if you can take the wheel arch liners out to get to some bolts, when i did mine i couldnt :(

take note of WhiteSei!

its ridden over the chassis leg so only needs the usual bits
clean up the screw heads in the liner with a wire brush and slightly tighten them before undoing them is always a good idea to break the rust, try and get some oil on the fasteners too if you can where they are exposed
you will need to take the charcoal evaporator of its fixings t9o get to the hidden bolt holding the wing on and if its an original wing you will need to cut the sealent to a panel too
get you new or s/h wing and you will see where the bolt hoes are,be very careful removing the windscreen trim and dont slip with the sockets or drag the wing on the screen as they are very susceptible to breakage here
straight forward repair everything bolt on cant envisage any problems for you a good scout on ebay should locate everything in your colour but be aware bonnets are best collected than transported by muppets in time warp machines
