My 1.3 multijet dynamic is a wonderful little car except for one thing there is an obvious difference in sound proofing between the 1.3mj and our 1.9td HGT when it comes to sound proofing I would go as far as to say the 1.3 has no sound proofing whatsoever.

Taking the Flashing/roofing tape approach I have covered the boot lid and boot floor under the back seats and front doors and the difference is pretty impressive a cheap iPhone db metre app measured a minimum of about 88db before it is now down to about 70-78db depending on speed

Wanting to continue my assault on excessive sound I want to now cover the floor celling and back doors I just have a couple of questions.

1) How do you get the rear door winder handles off without breaking them
2) how do I drop the roof lining has any one done this and is there anything I need to be aware of? In doing so I suspect I need to take all the trim off the A,B and C pillars so will add a bit of deadening to these too.

The idea is to kill a bit (a lot) of road noise, I'm not fitting some £10k stereo system so have no intention of spending hundreds of pounds on dynamat or equivalent before anyone suggests I do

its not all road noise the 1.3 diesel is quite loud little engine especially when cold.
I have pretty good decent quality directional tyres when it come to noise reduction, and round here a lot of the noise coming off the tyres is more down to road surface and can be very variable.

the complete lack of sound deadening in the Punto is very noticeable the drivers foot well seems to have nothing between the carpet and metal so i assume that the whole floor pan is the same

My HGT (petrol) was pretty quiet though the boot was bare metal. Maybe you could source the front carpets and insulation from a scrapper. There might also be a loose gromit in the engine bulkhead. take off the inner wheel arches to get a better look.

Another noise source is the doors. Fit good (waterproof) sound mat to the insides of the door's outer panels and fit good thick poly sheet over the inside to protect the door trims.

I cant help with how to remove the roof lining, but unless its damaged why would you?

Padding the roof lining wont help much in the noise stakes though it might make the car cooler in summer. Make sure you use proper car trim adhesive. Ordinary stuff wont cope with the summer temperatures inside a car.

Door handles usually have a hidden screw underneath or a pop-off cover that needs a small fine screwdriver to lever it off the screw top.
