Ok the N/S Suspension Turret is creaking and groaning when you turn it, I take it the top mount bearing is goosed. Now ok I could spent £30 on a new one but then need to muck around with spring compressors etc, so im just going to go to u pull and get another strut complete for £12. I take it its just 2 bolts at the hub(17 or 19mm?) and 3 nuts in the engine bay? No track rod end attached to the strut is there?

18/19 (sometimes just 19) for the strut nuts and bolts.

No TRA attached to the strut (that would be really wierd!).

I agree with diagnosis, but "always replace suspension components in pairs". The suspension is the most important component on the car -- it doesn't just keep it off the ground!

Yea couldn't remember, was just checking.

Just had a look at the strut and its different to the Mk1 ones. Top nut looks like a 15 or 17mm but theres a much bigger nut under that, is that one a 19mm or bigger?

top one is a 17mm, if your taking strut and spring out as 1 no need to undo the other nut, it holds spring cup in place.

Yep, no need to touch the central nut (and you risk injury if you do).

done my fronts back in the summer, apart from siezed bolts it was a doddle. Large breaker bar and someone with bigger muscles soon shifted them
Easy job, and I dont usually go anywhere near my car with spanners normally.

Siezed lower bolts? MK1 was the f&^%$n same Expecting the same when I go to teh scrappys, thankfully I know I will get a few to choose from

get the same shocks off the same car

Dont get 1 off 1 and another off another

Keep the shocks paired, bit like brakes, they have worn at similar rates

2 different cars - 2 different rates

and rust is going to be your enemy
