Hi,

I have a mk2 punto, 03 reg. It's not been used in about 6 months, and when I went to use it I noticed the its stiff to change gears - but only 1st, 3rd and 5th ie the upper half of the gears

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

If its a manual and gears select ok with the engine off its more likely to be the clutch. The pressure plates fail first so the clutch drags making the gears stiff.

mine went like that on my old pug and then the clutch pressuer plate snap in middle off town and had to stop the car and kick it into 3rd gear then drive it home.

i think its the selector cable
its alright in one position but once moved across the gate the angle is causing sticking
as said disconnect from gearbox top, lift up and see if you can dribble some oil down it
also consider pulling up the gearlever cover and drizzling some oil in there too
cushty:)

Thanks for the replies.

It happens regardless of whether the engine is on or not.
I'll try an oil change when the weather here is a bit better and see how it is after that.

Add some Mollyslip when putting new oil in, it makes a difference!
oo that reminds me time to update my thread :D
