Got into my 97 Punto this morning to go to work as usual... stuck the key in the ignition, turned and nothing!

I hadn't time to check a whole lot else, but there wasn't even so much as a kick. The key turned VERY easily in the ignition also, not the usual resistance you expect.

I'm thinking it could be an immobiliser or key problem. I didn't have time to check anywhere around the car, but where exactly is the immobiliser in these Puntos? Under the driver/passenger seat?

Also, I've just bought the car recently and I haven't got my change of ownership from the tax office yet. What exactly would a Fiat dealer ask me, to prove I own the car, if I had to get the key recoded? I got very little off the guy I bought it off, apart from the keys itself :/

Any and all help much appreciated.

Regards,

Philip.

P.S. I'm in Dublin, Ireland

This happened to my 55S some time ago, I had to get the AA to take my car to a Fiat dealer with all my keys and the regi docs to prove the car was mine.

when you turn the key if you look in the bottom left of the dash you shold see a orange light with a key in it that is the immobilser light. when you turn key it is supposed to come on and then go off after a 1-2 seconds if the light stays lit that means immobilser is not deactivating, and you will not start your car.

Turns out it was a battery problem after all. It must have been just completely dead that morning, so I suspect something was draining it. I'm just not sure what.

I got a battery booster with jump cables and it kicked off alright after connecting that up.

Thanks for all your help!

Phil.
