Technical Brakes

Got problems with my brakes, not just one bit but overall.
There seems to be a lot of air in the pedal, which i no can be solved through bleeding, but also even before that i had new discs and pads put on and my dad had a look at the back brakes, got new shoes to put on but when we took the drum off the shows were fine there was plenty of meat still left on them. Seems my handbrake is really bad, has to be right to the top to hold at all. If i buy a new cable and put it on, will this help my brakes entirely, as im sure the brakes should be fairly hot.

were the self adjusters working proppa?

How can you check that the self adjusters are working properly?

reset them refit drum. press brake peadle hard a few times, then remove drum and see if they have moved

if they have gone, how much are they to replace, or do you have to buy the whole drum?
