i need to bleed my HGT slave cylinder but the bleed nipple is plasic and has no nut to turn to bleed and seems to be pretty useless :S

Could someone please tell me how to bleed the slave cylinder system its driving me mad
thanks

i am asuming i need to bleed the line as my clutch pedal has no resistance and moves freely up and down...but my brake pedal is solid (No leaks anywhere from the pedel to the slave cylinder)

The clutch pedel is very easy to push down, rebuild so havnt started her in some time and also cant select any gears just nutrual and very stiff.
brand new release bearing in box
same clutch (brand new just before i strip the engine)
if i push down on the clutch pedel with the slave cylinder removed the first seal pops out but not the second

Ideally, fit a new slave cylinder and a new peg to the clutch lever. Make sure the metal pipe is not leaking where it goes under the gearbox mount bracket.

Definitly no leaks from the resivour to the pedel to the slave cylinder was looking for an hour.
I dont no how old the slave cylinder is so i might replace it and the release bearing leaver seems fine.

Whats the chance its the cylinder in the back of the pedel?

How do you bleed the line?

I can select gears now, was the ball joint in the gear knob/selector that was stiff and needed some more white grease, but ov without the clutch the gear selections are stiff and nasty :)

It could be the master cylinder, but if that has failed the slave will be just as bad so a new one wont be a waste.

However, check the operating lever is sitting correctly on the release bearing and the clutch pressure plate hasn't collapsed. They would put the mechanism too far away causing the slave piston to move out too far.

If the clutch was stiff and lumpy (it should be silky smooth) before the failure it could be the clutch has failed.

Clutch plate and release bearing are fine, I suspect either I need to bleed the slave line or that the cylinder behind the clutch pedal's seals have failed and is taking in air

Slave cylinder i believe also has a bleed nipple on it

it works on same priciniple as Brake bleeding

2 People method = Some Clear plastic tube on the Nipple and Plenty of fluid in the resivoiur

Press the pedal down - open the bleed valve - Close after it stops flowing - Pedal up - Pedal down - Open Valve - Close valve - Pedal up

The 2 of you need to communicate Really well - because if they pull the pedal up and you've got the Valve open, it'll just suck air in

I've seen this type before on a stilo there is no nut. You need 2 people unclip the C clip on the hose where it enters the slave and attach a bit of hose to the nipple next pull the hose slightly and get your mate to press the peddle and fluid will escape as he reaches the floor push the hose back in and repeat with a few goes you will find that you no longer need to pull the hose just push it lightly and the hose will push itself off don't let it come all the way out though. Once bled refit the c clip

Would that not leave air still inside the slave? thats if i havnt miss interpeted your intructions

If you mke sur the resevoir is full, undo the clip at the slave cylinder end and pull back the pipe a fraction. Fluid and bubbles will start to come out the plastic nipple. when no more bubbles are visible push the pipe back in, replace the clip and try the pedal with a few pumps. If the pressure has not returned repat whole procedure. There is a floating ball valve in the cylinder which lets this all work!
