Ok guys following on from my previous thread I picked up a 1.2 8V Mk2 tonight, nice wee car and more importanly the wifes chuffed to bits with it. :D
Ok so it needs a service, i'm handy enough with the spanners so that's no issue. With her MK1 1.1 I found it preferred 10/40 but I noticed on one of the service invoices the garage used 5/30 Semi Synthetic. Is this too thin? I have Castrol Magnatec 5/30 Fully Synthetic in the shed so im going to use that if you guys think thats ok. No mention of a Timing belt change anywhere so thats top of the list, as is a rocker cover gasket

Fuel filter. I had a look where I thought it would be, just in front of the OSR wheel, but couldn't see it, on the MK1 its very obvious. Did they move it for the MK2 or do I need to go to spec savers?? I take it that its the same fiddly clips just like the MK1 though?

It has the basic instrument panel, and looking at the manual and you get onewith the rev counter and temp gauge. Is it a simple retrofit, or would thier be re-wiring evolved? What about the Mileage? Is the Mileage stored on the clocks or in the ECU? Or is the change not even possible?

It comes with black bumpers like THIS but I prefer the bumpers like THIS but I keep reading that they are for 3 doors only, is that right?
What colour is the car? It is light blue metallic just the same as in the picture below.

Ive just serviced mine, used 10w/40, so cant see much wrong with using 5w/30 coming into winter...

Fuel filter is part of the fuel pump, its under rear bench, they cant be replaced without replacing entire pump.

Clocks can be changed, mileage is stored on ECU & clocks, but you need clocks woth lower mileage then get them Proxy Aligned to stop the LCD flashing, and display correct mileage. Wires are already there, just a case of unplugging old, and plugging higher spec in.

Bumpers can be changed to those 3 door front bumpers, but the rear bumper has to be from a 5 door.

That colour would be Azure Astral (804), check underneath side of the bonnet to confirm this, there should be a silver sticker just beside the bonnet catch

You can fit any front bumper, 3 or 5door.

As for the rear, it'll have to be a 5 door version, but yes you can find them on ebay etc and replace them yourself if you want

As for the fuel filter, if I'm not mistaken, it's within the fuel pump itself.

Underneath the back seats, you should see a cover that's black.

I think the filter is one with the pump, so both parts need to be removed if one goes, a.k.a non-serviceable part.

10/40w Semi
15/40 Semi
3/30 semi, all suitable really
as for Fully Synthetic, no point and is a waste of time and money
As far as i understand it'll drink it?

Rocker Cover = £4, its a 1hr job for a Noob really not much too it
:)
airbox off - Belt Cover off - Rocker off - Seal out - Cleaning takes ages of that tiny little gap! - Sealant and seal back on - settle down, bolt up!
However DONT bolt it up tight, as the seal is a compression seal, overcompress and it'll leak very quickly again
basically you want it to start to bite and squash a little bit
once its settle you can tighten it a ALITTLE bit, but not much

As said Above posts, its part of the Fuel Pump
its a special skill to magically get it out and new 1 in, like many, they never really get changed

Bumpers bumper bumpers

BUMP!

Anyway, the front Bumper 3 or 5 door, its the same no problems there
However the rear Bumper, if its off a 3door it'll only fit a 3dr
Off a 5dr will only fit a 5dr as the rear of the car is slightly different

As for Colour, your a very light blue, i THINk the paint code is 804a (metalic paint)
dont get fooled by the Blue Solid Colour Thats Darker, but on photo's look similar to the colour of your car :)
There are 3 blues btw
Dark Blue Metalic
Solid Blue - Mid range Blue
Light Blue - Metalic

Thanks guys, thanks for the fast replys (y) Well I suppose thats one less filter to change, or at the least go rusty and burst like it did, twice, on the last one :ROFLMAO:

Proxy alignment, is that like Tech2 with VX and VAGCOM for VW? Basically activating via a computer?

Grrrr! i still didnt add the Timing Belt info on the edit!

Anyway, Since its a 8v (best engine btw (y))
Its a Safe Engine, so the Belt snaps - its a pain yes, new belt and a time up = Off you go :)

If you are replacing the Belt, Replace the tensioner they go hand in hand
While the belt is off, replace the waterpump, alot of people SKIP this and wonder when the car overheats as the Pump has failed!
Its a good chance to get the Cooling system flushed
And then Refilled with a good Mix of Water to Anti-freeze - Ready for the hard winter that is most likely due to come!
As water + Cold = ice + engine = Ouch
Water + Anti-freeze + Cold = Engine Cold = spending the next 10mins scraping the Friggin screen = Cold but Happy motorist

Edit:- OMG this is the 4th EDIT FFS!

Anyway the dash
Most Punto's and Mia Punto's come with the Speedo and fuel guage Dash, its nasty and since people mistreat these cars overheats aren't far behind

Anyway For the Dash change over
You will need a Dash Pod with a LOWER MILAGE then the cars current
sure yes you can get a dash with higher milage, but the car will show the higher milage = Devalued it straight away = No good
Sure a 1,000 aint bad, so do the 1000miles then get the dash installed

Installation = Pips 4 bolts for the Surround
3 for the Dash
1 Connector on the back
Wiggle out
new dash in is the reverse
No messy wiring or owt - plug and play (Ish)

You will need to then Proxy Align it, this will stop the dash constantly flashing, and stop bizare things like the Warnign lights coming on
as the Cars ECU (where the milage is stored) wont communicate properly and you get odd results sometimes

Anyway Fiat Ecu Scan can now do this i believe - but you will need a suitable OBDII connector
OR contact your local Auto electrician, as they will be able todo this for you too

Dont ask fiat - as they'll make you kiss the deck with your pants and trousers round your ankles :)

Hope my ranmbles helps!

Thanks Ziggy. Yea the fully synthetic, well Asda were selling 4lt of 5/30 Fully Synthetic last year for £10 a pop so it was rude not to buy a few in for my Vectra so ive got a couple of cans left in the shed. Thanks for the tip with the gasket btw (y)

Yea noticed, think it was your tip, thats the bottom hose still has the crimped factory hose clamp on it (n) so that will get done at the same time as the belt.

mash the bugger off
get yourself a Couple of Nice New jubaliee clips to replace the old on you need to mash off

But if its still a Fiat Clip (unless fiat did it last) it probably ready for a good flush and Anti-freeze change :)

As said - your local fiat dealer will make you bend over with your pantz and trousers around your ankles

Ring around the Local Auto-factors i do :)
Get parts if ther eloads cheaper from them
I'm lucky i have 3 or 4 locals
Use mainly 2, but prefer one atm

if its penny's - dont worry, but factor in petrol costs getting there and back

When doing plugs - makes good sense todo HT leads too?
But if its got good history, is there no history of spark plugs?

ziggy

L:ROFLMAO: im sensing that Fiat dealers like getting our pants down, haha. Just checked the last service invoice from June last year(Only 6K miles since) and the spark plugs were done then, so im guessing the plugs should be ok? SWMBO's MK1 1.1 had a set of HT leads last year and as its going to the big scrap yard in the sky I shall whip them off before it goes. (y) Ebay/Factors it is then. :D

Further look at some of the service history shows a set of HT leads in 2007 at 49K and wiper assembly at the same time too, £120!!!! Thought all the bushes looked in pretty good nick. :)

If they were done 6k ago - in thoery should get abit longer out of them
By all means remove - inspect - check gap + condition - refit is safe todoso
Ht's should be okay, but again, rubber breaks up and mis-fires against engine, so do keep an eye out
Dont know if mk1 fit mk2 tho

Wiper assembly failure then replace with Wipex kit

Fiat are expensive for some parts, unless its a bizare clip or something

Ziggy

Pretty much what Ziggy said :D

The dash is awkward as you can only adjust the mileage to go up but not down, even though the mileage is stored in the ECU (n)

The oil, I use 10w/40. Thats whats most commonly used as far as I know.

Also, if you have had a look at the wiper linkages and they're ok and you get juddering then it should be an easy fix. I had to do that about a month after I got my Punto. There's a guide on the forums to fix juddering windscreen wipers.
https://www.fiatforum.com/punto-guides/129175-fixing-juddering-windscreen-wipers.html

Also what hose clip are you talking about? I need to check this on mine.
