Advice - Brakes on my 00 Punto

To cut a long story short, I had my disks, pads and drums replaced on my Punto, since then the brakes have been sqealing loudly under ANY braking. I have taken it back to the garage several times and have been told many things, mainly that it is fixed, but including 'Punto brakes always squeak once replaced, the only way to avoid it is to get Fiat to fit their genuine parts!' Following my visit today there is also a scarey burning smell coming from the front brakes!

Has anyone had this level of noise from their Punto after the brakes have been replaced (it sounds like a bus)? Has anyone been able to get it sorted? What do you think my next tack should be?

I have had just about enough now, and after going back now 8 times in the 8 months I just want my lovely little car to be a pleasure to drive again!!!

Thankyou

You have to realise that production cars have to make people happy, no one would put up with squeeky brakes on a new car would they?
A decent brake pad compound that can be found on "fast road use" aftermarket pads will squeek a lot, this is why production cars are given poor pads just to keep the buyers happy.
Have you put grooved disks on or something?

I just put the standard ones back on. I wouldn't even describe this as a sqeak, it's VERY loud and ear splitting to me totally unacceptable! The burning smell it has developed is also worrying!

You may need anti-squeal shims putting on the back of the brake pads.

I will get my husband to see if they are hot I think, I have a reputation for burning myself!

Spoken to a few people and think we have now come to the conclusoin that the calliper may be sticking as the car also pulls to the left, I thought it was an unrelated problem and got the tracking done, but it still does it. It didn't do it before I had the brakes replaced, but I thought I had hit pot holes as I live in the country.

Fed up of all the hassle now, but going back to the garage today!

Thanks

they may not have checked the run-out on the new discs, if its wrong the
disc(s) will have to be taken off and turned 180 degrees.
