Re: engine

Too costly for the benefits & modified car insurance costs.

Save up for a Punto with a bigger engine fitted as standard.

Re: engine

Cool go for it then, pick your engine & pop it in... I still think even at the old age of 23 you should check the insurance including all the modifications though...

Re: engine

try hic for insurance, didnt charge me any extra for putting a bigger punto into a punto as the engine was still made to fit the car from factory sort of thing

Re: engine

Fair few Cinqs running 1.4 16v -- check posts by j333Evo, foxyemz, kripit, Arc. Get the gearbox while you're at it (that way you get a free clutch and flywheel). You'll need an aftermarket ECU.

Re: engine

Get the full ECU and keys set from the donor.
Engine ECU
Body computer
Immobiliser
ignition key (swap transponder)
Instrument panel (maybe - but its all integrated so a risk without)
Cabling to suit.

Ideally get better brakes as well. Dont bother with HGT rear discs. Heavy and no more power than the drums.

If donor had ABS you will need all of that as it will otherwise show the ABS warning light = MOT fail.

All that for a fairly ordinary result.
Now go for an Alfa 2.0TS and we are really talking.

Re: engine

Can't see anyone getting the canbus and FBW stuff working from a 1.4 16v ECU on a Mk2 Punto!

GSR like the 1.2 16v ECU which I'd recon can be remapped to cope with a 1.4 16v, if you're near them. People have used Emerald, Canems and Megasquirt on the Cento 1.4 16v, so any aftermarket ECU can run them just fine.

Re: engine

Yep - canbus isnt likely to work in a Mk2. It's probably cheaper with all original kit from a donor car. A bare engine from a breakers could be the most costly option.

For all the work involved, it makes sense to go the whole hog. Just avoid the 20V engines - too big, too heavy and not especially powerful.

Theres an article in EVO magazine about the running costs of an integrale,

16v engine will set you back £5,500
£900 to replace clutch...
