Hi People.

I know this is an old topic now so I hope I am not covering old ground.
I am curious to know if anyone knows what it is that actually fails in these systems. I had a punto the other week steering perfect. I parked in a tight little gap on the road side, still fine no problem. When I left the same space however there was an audiable bang and the steering motor failed. Ie light on and heavy steering. The car was left stood still for about 4 hours but still no good. Drove home with the light still on and no power steering. I stopped at some services, came out and re started. Power steering all working fine. Wierd. Just as I turned into my road there was a sort of glitching from the wheel and the motor failed again.
Replacing the motor with a second hand unit has fixed the problem. Its not battery related or anything. What I am curious to know is does anyone know what it is in these things that actually goes ? They seem to be a weak point in what is otherwise a good car.
Can anyone shed any light ?

Id say if you take the old motor apart and check the joints on the circuit board, you'll find the cause of the problem. All that needs to be done is resolder all joints on the 2 relays.
