Hi
I have a 1.2 8v punto(2000).
I took into the garage as i noticed the engine had oil seeping down the front of it. They have told me that it is due to the sump gasket which has corroded and rusted away(which apparently is as common as muck) and they cant replace the sump without replacing the rocker gasket aswell. which brings the grand total with labour to £214 inc vat.
I talked to the warranty company as its still under a 1 year warranty but they say that as the problem is down to corrosion/rust its classed as general wear and tear and it isnt covered! :bang:
ive also gone back to the people that sold me the car but as i have driven it more than 6000 miles and hadnt had it serviced yet theyre not willing to help cover any of the costs !
I know i should of had it serviced after 6000 miles but ive only had it 5 months and driven just over 7000 miles.
First of all does the cost of repair for the gaskets sound right? and do you reckon ive got a case for getting the people i got it from to cover some of the cost?

well service schedulle is 12k miles soo the 6000 thing must be there own rule.

and om no expert that sounds way over the top for the price

the sump is on the bottom of the car. soo not sure how you would get oil on teh front though. also just loked in me hayned manual and sump change does not involve any gaskests at all just some silcon sealent.

to me your leak sounds like it could be the rocker gasket in wich case either the sump has gone sepereatly or they are trying to get you to do work not needed.

some one will tell me i am wrong now lol but this is how i see in me haynes :) and from me little car engine knowlegde lol

I already have a thread going re my cinq sump, but I was quoted £253 for a sump and engine mount (was told a new gasket was obligatory as well - even though the cinqs don't have sump gaskets!!), so I guess the price you were given is about the norm. Started by leaking a bit - took it to garage and they said the only way to find out where the leak was from was to steam clean the engine - BIG MISTAKE!!! The gunk was holding the oil in - when they cleaned it the oil flooded out through 8 pin holes!!! Friend has taken the sump off for me and a plate is being welded onto it - grand total of £20 for new oil, oil filter and mastik. Good luck (y)
