To be honest - if your replacing the sensor - i'd be draining it anyway
i'm going to assume the Gearbox has never had a fluid change, so drain it
Change the sensor = Wont get too mucky and covering in Fish stinking oil
And then replace with fresh and clean
Might make the car sound a little better too

Im just after changing the clutch, and when doing so i changed the oil so im trying to avoid draining the gearbox so i dont waist my oil.
You don't need to. Just go for it.
