Technical Misfire on idle??

If you can Gavin, why not try such as ebay? You could save a shed load of money on what is really a bit of a gamble due to me not knowing why mine was fixed with the replacement pump?

I've tried to find my posts for part numbers but cant. All I can advise is stick with correct type of engine ie 8 valve or 16 as the pressures are different apparently.

Good luck though mate and dont forget to borrow/beg the tool :)

Part ordered from ebay cost £20 with delivery, not bad. As for the part I'll ask my friend if he has one as he works in a garage, thanks for your help shaun.

Any time Gavin :)

Got me fingers crossed here mate, if you could let us know the outcome please once you get sorted?

Great price by the way :)

Yeah I will let you know how it goes (y) I'm doubtful tbh but I'm willing to try anything at the moment as I'm stumped.
Its been posted anyway so I'll have it soon enough what are the usual symptoms of a failing fuel pump??

Pump came today, tried to fit it just and yeah that thing is in there good and proper.
Already broke one of the notches off the cap trying to get it off and my friend is out......
Rang a garage, gonna charge me £25 to fit will keep you updated.

If you have access to a Haynes manual Gav, they made a tool that looks well easy to do :)

To be honest, £25 is taking the mick a bit, literally a minutes job once you get to screw that collar off/on again :)

Another update, got some sporting clocks fitted yesterday (having a tacho is awesome) anyway at idle the revs fluctuate very slighty however at 2000rpm the fluctuate quite a bit like 500rpm up and down, I'm thinking MAP sensor problem is there an easy way to test this.
Or am I way off does anyone have any ideas??

Where is the map sensor on these cars?

Did you ever manage to get the replacement pump fitted?

Cheers

Its on the inlet manifold, right hand side mate. Pump is being changed tomorrow glad I'm not alone with this problem.

No you're not. My 2001 1.2 8v has been idling pretty rough lately, although I remember that I noticed a slight stumble in the idle after the first 20 000 km. I figured these engines simply were like that. Anyway, recently I can be standing at a light and every few seconds the engine misses and the idle drops for a second. (BTW she's got over 180k on her now)Yesterday the motor stalled on me once, but started right up. Your fluctuation of 500 rpm seems really out there, so I wonder if mine is going in the same direction.
Have you considered a faulty Idle Air Control valve? Unfortunately they are not replaceable as you have to replace the whole throttle body. You can't spray too much cleaner in there either as it won't completely drain down into the throttle body throat and won't evapourate for a whle - this causes the car to stall at lights. Found that out the hard way a few years ago.
Good luck with the pump!

It seems it was the fuel pump! Absolute bitch to get off but worth it. The idle is now normal and the backfiring has gone thanks shaun :) Just took it on a 20 mile round trip in traffic and the shaking has gone, the revs still fluctuate when i hold it at 2000 rpm but i'm pretty sure thats a sensor but I dont care now my "misfire" has been cured.

Nicely done Gavin :) Real pleased for you mate.

Regards the fluctuating revs, someone on here mentioned this re fast idle at MOT time. Seems our cars need to be moving to achieve a stable high idle (try a search mate, lots written on it :)

Even to the point where VOSA wrote to MOT garages explaining what to do.

But great news on the fixed smooth running again, good man :)

Cheers for the advice mate, I would have never have thought fuel pump. This new one is much quieter when priming aswell :)
Just done a 300 mile round trip to blackpool and back and it didn't miss a beat, well happy!

I'll take a look about the rev thing aswell.

my car was doing this in low revs 2 things up with it 1 was my back box needed new 1 had black hair coming out of it and air filter box the air flow was restricted

Seems i spoke to soon, looks like it has come back :( Not as severe but it is there oh well **** it I'm not chucking anything else at this engine I'll drive it till its due for MOT and it it fails emissions I'll just get another car, not a fiat!

Sorry to hear the misfires back:(
If the newpump seemed to cure it for a while mabe there is some contamination in the tank?
Not sure if its possible but could you try putting an extra filter inline before the pump? See if it picks up anything?
