right i posted in tech talk with no reply so ill try here.

My engine keeps randomly misfiring whilest driving along.

The engine will be fine then suddenly misfire for about 20 seconds and then will clear itself and will be fine fine for a while until it happens again.

i took it on the motorway for along longish drive and it seemed to pretty much die completely after a while. But after leaving it on the drive for a couple of hours it seemed ok again.

Ive had a head gasket, water pump, termostat, oil filter, cambelt, new leads, plugs, coilpacks, lamda sensors and cat about 100 miles ago so i am baffled.

Any engine boffins got any advice as it would be greatly appriciated.

It might be a blocked fuel filter if fitted, drivers side rear wheel-arch area IIRC.

Actually scratch that, it was midfiring quite badly earlier and the EML light started flashing, what could this mean?

Need some good advice as im sick of throwing money at the engine and it still not being fixed!

get a decent code reader and post codes on here so you know which cylinder if not all it is misfiring on...

had one in at work ECU is gone sounds like same as yours...have fun with that one lol

keep driving it and you can say bye bye to your piston rings

ah after reading that then i assume its going to be an ecu fault seeings as everything else is brand new!

Any local places to birmingham that repair ecu's?

or is there anything i can do to repair it?

you can send them off for repair for quite cheap

Does it back fire at all? mine was back fireing miss fireing and over fueling etc.. it was just old spark plugs... worth a shot?

spark plugs are new

ECU Testing Ltd sell exchange ECUs that are plug and play (see their website). Also replace coils, plugs and leads as a faulty coil can damage the ECU.
