Hi guys,

looking for a bit of advice:confused:, ive started doing a few mods to my Mk2 1.2 8v 3dr. Alloys and sporting skirts n boot spoiler. What im wondering is, can i just swop my center console for a sporting one? i know it come in 2 parts(main unit and handbrake surround etc). Will i need anything else such as the gear selector from the sporting as they are different or will mine be fine. Also do you know if my gaiter will fit as i cant seem to get my hands on a sporting gaiter and it does look bigger than mine. I have tried the search facility but cant find an answer this this question.

Cheers in advance :slayer:

I did mine and there are a few things to do in order to make it fit properly.
I presume that you're referring to the black & silver console (from the Sporting) and you have the black console with the 2 cup holders.

The silver console uses a brass bracket (in the centre) as the main fixing point to the body of the car (under the heater mechanism). You need both parts of the brass bracket.
To add to this, the older console at the handbrake has a silver u shaped bracket bracket to keep it in place. The newer bracket is different. You will need both the u-shaped bracket as well as the 2 bolts used to attach it to the body of the car.

Sorry to sound so long winded, but its the best way I can describe it (don't have pictures). When you remove the silver console, you can't mistake the parts I'm referring to.

yes u can fit the sporting console..... for the full kit, u will need the center console, handbrake surround, and window switch panel. u can use the existing gearstick gaiter... but u will need the plastic gaiter ring to hold it down from the sporting console as well as they are a different shape. just keep an eye out in the scrappys or make sure the seller has it all included if u get it online.

bugger!!!!

cheers for the replies guys, unfortunately its an ebay trader so i dont think those extra bits will be there. Could i make the brackets do you think?? Im very handy...done all the welding, new gearbox, legs etc etc...

TBH, I fitted mine like I said, then because the bracket interfered with the cabling for my Ipod and the bluetooth system, I ripped it out & made a pocket where the CD-changer was. It still sits in place, but is obviously not as sturdy as it would have been with the bracket.

The handbrake part of the console is no problem. The silver bracket (fits under the handbrake lever where the microswitch is fixed) is no biggie. Just a chrome u shaped piece of metal that fixes to the floor of the car and to which you attach the console (1 screw on either side).
Nothing that any person a bit handy would not be able to sort out ASAP.

I also did not change my switch rail. Had a look at the silver one and decided that the 2-tone look of the black rail with silver console suited me more. To each his own (y)
