"The sound system is equipped with an antitheft system based on the data exchange between the sound system and the car's Body Computer electronic control unit. This system ensures top security and avoids the need to enter the secret code whenever the sound system power is disconnected. After each disconnection, an automatic check procedure is run. During this time the message "CHECK" appears on the display. The protection system makes the sound system useless if removed from the dashboard. A secret code is provided in any case so that the sound system can be used in different Fiat Punto from the one it was originally fitted in. The code will allow you to use the radio even if the Body Computer is different."

In short you need the little card that has the CODE on it, check in the log book etc.

How did this message appear, did you mess around with the radio at all?

Have you removed the stereo at all? I believe as cgarr says this is due to the anti theft system. At the back of the stereo there is the usual iso block connection, but also there is a smaller white block connector that connects the stereo to the car electronic system, when this connector is not attached, or a stereo from another car is attached this is what it will say.
If possible take the stereo out (if it has not recently been out) and check that this connector is properly attached, that might resolve the issue? It can be decoded by various car radio proffesionals or Fiat but the last I looked it was about £30-£40.

Thank you for the replies :)

I got the car with no radio in it but this radio came with it. I plugged it in before to see if it worked and it di, I don't know what happened this time

Can codes be generated for these radios?

I'll see if all the plugs are sitting in correctly :)

Everytime the radio is disconnected or loses power (Ie, battery unclipped) you'll have to enter the code. I do believe the codes can be generated yes, but you'd have to donate to the forum for them to do that

Hi,

Codes can be generated for these radio's so all is not lost. Make a post in here with your radio's S/N and someone will provide you with the code.

It's also appreciated if you make a small donation to the forum in return rather than paying £30 for a dealer to sort it out. (y)

Hi

Sorry to jump on this thread but thought it better that starting a new post.

I have the same problem. I bought a blaunkept radio and cd changer off ebay for my Fiat 1.2 W reg (2000). I have installed the radio and attached it to the cd changer, but get the CHECK on the radio.

I did contact the seller who unfortunately hasn't got the code as it was lost.

If I can get a code from the forum (with a donation made) do I just enter the code into the radio, or do I need to get the radio programmed to the car electronic system.

Any help will be really appreaciated.
