Hi, my gearbox inspection cover appears to have a leak, anyone got any ideas on how i could fix it? Thanks :)

Mine developed this after a clutch change. I traced it down to the stud for the earth strap which was loose. Not cured 100% so I think the cover will have to come off at some stage an liquid gasket applied to the mating surfaces. Keep an eye on your oil level in the box. The leak may not look much but there isn't a lot of oil in the box. I'm putting in about 100cc every six months or so.
To get at the cover the battery box needs to come out and probably disconnect the selector cables to get it cleaned up right. Just be careful it all goes back the way it came apart.

its the pressed steel inspection cover behind the wheel, not the shifter mechanism cover lol, but yeah, that has been done on mine, but ive made a paper gasket for that :p

Did you ever find a fix for your leak. I am having the same problem and it is by the inspection cover of the flywheel. I am not sure if it is oil or the fluid I put in the differential. When I pull the fill plug for the differential is still shows it is full but I have not driven the car for more than 20 miles since filling it. When I purchased the car it was really low and the previous owner expressed concern for the fluid level. I now suspect he knew there was a problem. I used a synthetic that I was advised to use on this forum. Is it possible I overfilled it? Do you know if there are front differential/tranny seals that fail on this car or if there is a fluid I can use to stop the leak?

The rubber cover on the top? That has an air filled void underneath it (where the flywheel and clutch live). If that appears to be leaking, I'd guess it was actually from way above that -- either the rocker cover or the coil pack O ring.

But, does it smell like engine oil (sniff the dipstick) or like transmission oil (smells a bit like cat pee)?
