hi guys
I recently fitted sporting clocks in my 2b active sport.does anybody know exactly what i need to proxi allign it?
i downloaded fiatecuscan(i am going to get the full version)and bought a usb vag com kkl cable.fiat ecu scan dosnt seem to like my ecu it wont connect to anything on my car!:bang:i tried soldering a wire between pins 3 and 7 and still nothing!
any ideas why?
 
yes it installed properly as i tried using the software that came with the cable aswell.but that software just kept saying it wasnt responding (the programme)and said controller not responding?

This was based on my experience with a Mk2b, a VAG-COM KKL USB lead and the free version of FiatECUScan.

The link between pins 3 and 7 is only to 'talk' to the airbag system.

You should be able to access the 'K-line' ECUs (engine and airbag) but you won't be able to access the other ECUs that work on the CanBUS system. That includes the dash ECU. For that you would need a lead based on the ELM chip and some other software (that said, not sure whether the 'paid for' version of FiatECUScan does CanBUS).

Finally, 'proxy alignment' is the synchronisation of the various ECUs. I'm not aware of any 'DIY' software that can do this - may need a trip to a main dealer (though I haven't checked the spec. of the latest 'paid for' FiatECUScan).

Thanks for clarifying that. OP says he is getting the 'paid for' version. However, he says his lead is KKL - looks like the missing link will be the need for a CanBUS capable lead (e.g. ELM-based).

Yeah,

There are basically two types of cable. The cheaper one is KKL only (engine and airbags). The more expensive type does CanBUS as well as KKL.

One variety of CanBUS lead is based on the ELM327 chip.

It's a 'caveat emptor' about cloned ELM327 chips. To summarise, ELM is the company that wrote the software that it then programmes onto blank PIC chips (PIC = Programmable Interface Controller). Other companies buy the programmed PIC chips from ELM and build them into circuit boards to make the 'leads' that you can buy. Some dubious companies managed to hack early ELM PIC chips and then wrote the code onto blank PIC chips (cheap as chips). That way they cut their overheads to supply cheaper leads (with what is effectively pirated code). The issue is that the hacked code was ELM V1.2 whereas the better/newer software is ELM V1.3 (which is better protected against hacking). So. a cheap ELM-based lead may be V1.2 with limited capability.

Regarding the remark "thought it would work because it was obd 2", here are the five protocols that OBD2 covers (same connector, different pins used):

SAE J1850 PWM - Pulse Width Modulation - used by Ford.
SAE J1850 VPW - Variable Pulse Width - used by General Motors.
ISO9141-2 - K or KL line - used by Chrysler, European and Asian manufacturers.
KWP2000 (Keyword Protocol 2000) - K or KL line - similar to ISO9141-2 but allows longer messages.
ISO15765 (CanBUS) - developed by Bosch, usage is wider than just automotive.


Punto uses one of the K/KL protocols and the CanBUS protocol.
