Afternoon all.

I have just purchased an 01 Punto 1.2 3 door.

Upon investigation it appears as though there is a problem with the power steering. The red steering wheel light is lit on the dash.

However, the power steering feels like it's working - either that or the steering is very light un-assisted.

The city steering definitely doesn't work as I know how much lighter this makes things.

I've had a cursory poke around and no fuses seem to have blown but I have discovered a white connecter with 10 pin hols which has velcro stuck around it. Wire colours are white, white/red, black/blue, blue, yellow/green, red/orange and black.

I only have a Haynes manual and cannot find any reference to a connector with these wires anywhere.

Can anyone assist with getting the steering working and the light off. Previous owner claims to have changed the power steering motor and there is one in the boot so this seems plausible.

Take off the panel where the city button is, you have to take the center console to get to the screws for it. Then check the connector on the back.

You could also do this; Take the back off this panel, and clean up the connectors on the circuit board (gently), reconnect and refit and test it.

If still not working, it may mean the steering motor will need proxi aligned to configure it properly.

The green city light comes on on the dash when I switch city on.

The main mystery to me is the white plug down near the pedals.

Sometimes the light will come on because of a fault with the power feed

Ie a weak battery when on full lock hits the battery hard if the alternator isn't working hard (at idle)

Or Say you nearly stall the car - the power drops the EPS ECU picks on that and Thinks its a fault - and for-warns you
