I have a 2001 Punto ELX 8V, and touch wood no major problems, however, I have one which is slightly concerning and this is the deal.
Driving down the motorway at about 65mph there was a large rattling sound suddenly under my accelerator peddle (at least it felt around there) heard something drop onto the road but didn't see anything out the rear view mirror, pulled up and quick roadside inspection could see nothing. Drove home with no problems, but certain something fell off.
Since have had a large clanking sound on every quarter turn when turning the wheel at less than 10mph or stood still, no noise at higher speed, no noise over bumps, no noticeable effect on steering or car wobble, no noticeable difference in height or bounce between left and right front wheels and seems perfectly normal other than very low speed.
Checked all underneath and have seen no problems (but I have noooo idea about cars!!!) but have found the clanking is from the drivers side front wheel arch, took a look as someone turned the wheel and the front spring is slightly twisting and then "clanking" back into place hence the noise, although there is nothing noticeably different to the passenger side, or anything noticeably broken on the spring.
I am figuring it is a broken spring, but before I jump straight in at a garage could it be something else to look out for?
