Guys, I am sitting with the same dilemma now. I have the GP engine 1.4 t jet and engine ecu to buy. I would've like to install it in the 1.8 hgt. Instead of putting heads together and figuring it out how it may work, we normally get unproductive replies and comments.
Looking at the GP 1.4 t jet, it seems to have all the electrics (2 door windows, audio controls on the steering wheel, etc.), abs, esp,etc like the Punto 1.8 hgt. So what if I also got the body computer, wiring looms from the GP and wired it into the electrics of the Hgt, thus removing the Hgt body computer, with the help of both cars wiring diagrams. The GP body computer will then control all these electrical functions or most and the engine ecu will manage the engine.

Anyone might say why invest money into this, but there is a first for everything.

Re: 1.4 Grande Punto Engine in a MK2B

Its ALOT of work - And its not just the wiring loom - its all the sensors and the GP has to have the same Spec as the mk2b

Ie mk2b has abs and airbags
the GP has Traction Control abs and Extra airbags, the Wiring loom wont be enough, the Warning lights would all come on

And Changing a wiring loom is ALOT of work, its not just lights and stuff, its the radio the fans the Steering coloum. the dash, the central locking
Really what im saying is this
You want a 1.4 GP engine, get a 1.4 GP

Swapping the engine over is expensive - worth more then the car - Road Tax / Insurance will most likely Increase, and at the end of the day? you've still got a Punto really

I was under the impression that the 1.4 GP engine is exactly the same as the 1.4 in the 2B Sporting?

Re: 1.4 Grande Punto Engine in a MK2B

The engine might be the same but the electronics and cabling wont be the same. Folks have hit problems fitting later model 8V Punto engines into cars 2 years only younger and found they could not get the ECU to work as it should. Common sense says that should be a no brainer conversion but it turns out to be different.
