both of the airbag warining lights have come on this morning and stayed on.

What could cause this? Im guessing as they both come on its a sensor fault rather than an airbag problem.

Its booked into dealers on Thurs anyway. No danger driving it till then?

I presume you mean both the red airbad light and the yellow 'rear-facing child seat' light?

If so, it is probably dodgy wiring to the passenger airbag de-activation switch (inside the passenger door) which I had on my '02 Punto. Or it could be the switch itself that has gone. When Fiat plug it in to the computer all it will tell them is the de-activation switch is at fault even if the wire is dodgy. This happened to me twice and they kept on repalcing the switch. When it happened a third time they dug a bit deeper. In the first instance, get a new switch fitted, and if the problem comes back (mine took about a week) then it will probably be the wiring.

The car is fine to use, just don't have an accident.

The airbags won't 'explode' by chance, the car will have shut them both off from working. don't put a child in the passengers seat if they are facing backwards until it is resolved ;)

Inside the passenger door? Take it you mean at end of the dashboard. No point keep renewing switch as problem is in the multiplug(theres a special 'tweak' that can be done) could also be passenger airbag open circuit which is wiring behing glovebox, normally caused by overfilling glovebox & when slammed shut catches the wiring behind it.
