Hi All

I have a punto (w reg) and it has the dreaded intimitent power steering problem... This is no worries for me as the car is light.. but the MOT is due soon.. is this an mot failure???

Many Thanks

mark

Hi mate and welcome to the forum

The EPAS failur light will only be an MOT failure from Jan 2012.

However if it intermitently operates (ie cuts in then turns off during the test) then this POTENTIALLY could be a fail. Best thing to do is remove the EPAS fuse for the MOT test so that it will be permanatly off.

Hope that helps,
Alan

An intermittent PAS problem is often the battery. Has it been replaced recently and is the alternator keeping it charged.

but if you remove this fuse (i dont know where it is ) then the power steering wont be working so its an automatic mot failure?

Nope, cars do not have to have EPS to pass an MOT.

Cheers

thats not what i asked;)
i askerd if the car has power steering as factory fit and you disable it by means of depriving it of the elixior of life (in this case elektrikery) would it pass an mot:D

EPS is treated differently to PAS as it stands. And untill Jan 2012 having the EPS light illuminated on the dash is not a fail.
