you can fire an airbag if you dont disconnect the battery
you have no idea if there is a fault causing power to be somewhere that shouldnt be and a bag given a quick jolt of this would fire it

ive fired enough airbags off to know you treat them with extreme caution

i bet you dont even know the chemicals in the firing capsule do you
go find out via google and be afraid

:yeahthat: there are also capacitors in the circuitry which can store small amounts of charge even AFTER the battery is disconnected. This is why you wait, to allow the charge to dissipate.

Even a big enough static charge can set off an airbag. It's for this reason that I'm often reluctant to recommend or suggest changing/ removing airbags on forums. If you don't know how to handle them, you can seriously injure yourself or someone else.

power can be held at certain points in the car, after battery is disconected.

this is what they is getting at ithink flisko,

it can take up to 20+ minutes for this to drain off,

allways take lead off battery and leave it off a while before working on stuff like this,

they can actualy fire... its not myth,

Why bother asking for help when you obviously (think you) know better?

well good to know that supposedly something unplugged can still hold charge for that long

Jist because the battery is off
The capacitors still take 10-15 to discharge

Dont just start yanking

its the same as old tv sets, you could get a nasty shock from the inside of them hours after they had been unplugged

How do I know on the multiecuscan software which air bag I need to look at or do i just look at all of them until i see the fault.

PS for the thick i.e. me, what do i pick in the software for a 52 reg fiat punto 1.2 8 valve

just try conecting to them 1 by 1 until you find the right one,

it wont connect to it if not the right one,

Is the car a Punto 99 or Punto 03 ?

A 52 plate is a late year 2002

so yes it'd Be 2003

If you connect to the wrong unit in the software it will still connect but will say "ISO ERROR" before it lets you in

If it's a mk2 then it's a 1999

If it's a mk2b then it's a 2003

That's essentially what the dates are supposed to mean but maybe fiat updated the airbag ecu earlier so was fitted to many mk2s?
