Hi anyone replaced the bonnet release cable on a Mk2 Punto?

Is it easy to do or is it a pain in the arse and better to get the garage to do it? :)

was assured by a garage earlier that its and easy and simple job unless you have a HGT engine in the way. Not tried it myself however but need to get around to it

have done mine on mk2b. was pretty simple, just follow where the old one was. Hardest bit was getting it through the hole into foot well.

Opening the bonnet after the old cable had snapped took a lot longer ;)

cant see why the HGT would make that much different (though aircon might)

appparently the bigger engine just means you have less room to work in. Mechanics views not mine.... lol im hoping regreasing my latch should save me changing the cable

Oh yes the HGT is a pig to work on (a V6 would give more working space than the Alfa 1.8) but I suspect the bonnet catch is much the same.

Mine was sticking as well.

After you get someone to pull and you pop the latch, use some WD40 and if like me you have a compressor to hand, I blew all the crap out with a compressed air line.

It's works fine now, but seems to get gunked up pretty easy.

Thanks for the replies and information. Will get a new cable ordered and give it a bash. Will let you know how I get on.

Needs regreasing or it will just rust!! Im planning on cleaning with the carb cleaner i brought the other week cos that busted the oil out my throttle body no problems

don't forget to re-grease it after cleaning it with WD40

will white grease do the job? have been told just buy a spray can of white grease and it will be fine

Some years ago I repaired an old Mk1 Punto inner bonnet cable with picture frame wire. Worked a treat. As long as outer cable is in tact, pull out the old broken inner, grease up new wire, & it's just a case of threading it through the outer that's still in place. Cut to size, attach to each end. Job done.

Cheap fix.:D

use your old cable as a draw wire, cut the metal bend out pull it both ways
